Chapter 4
In a bar, I saw Trevon again.
My colleagues and I were having a department gathering.
Our private room was next to his.
Matthew Meyer, one of my colleagues, bumped into Hannah in the corridor and wanted to friend her on WhatsApp.
She slapped him.
Hearing the commotion, two groups of people went out into the corridor at once.
Amidst the crowd, I saw Trevon.
The others made way for him, and Hannah threw herself into his arms right away.
“Trevon, he tried to cop a feel!”
Matthew defended himself, “Ma’am, that’s a lie.
“I just wanted to friend you on WhatsApp. I never went anywhere near you.
“And you slapped me? Don’t you think that’s a bit uncalled for?”
Trevon’s expression darkened.
I clenched my fists.

The department head recognized Trevon and stepped forward to stop Matthew quickly.

“Shut up! Do you even realize who you’re talking to? How dare you disrespect Mr. Parker?
“Apologize to Mrs. Parker now!”
Matthew instantly sobered up a lot.
Sadly, he was so young and didn’t know better.
He chose to defend himself again.
“Mr. Parker, I don’t think I should apologize. I never went anywhere near Mrs. Parker. And I swear I’m telling the truth.”
I clenched my fists even harder.
How stupid!
Matthew really had no idea his career was hanging by a thread.
“Oh? So, you’re saying Hannah slandered you?”
Trevon squinted.
His aura was utterly intimidating.
There were so many people present, yet no one dared to
move.
“What are you waiting for? Apologize!” the department head urged Matthew sternly again.
Then he turned to Trevon, saying humbly, “Mr. Parker, we’re

so sorry.

“He’s fresh out of school and is very ignorant. Please don’t take it to heart.”
Too bad Matthew was so stubborn that he remained silent,
not wanting to apologize.
“Take him to our private room.”
Trevon tilted his head, ordering those around him.
“What … are you gonna do?
“Let go of me!” Matthew struggled.
The rest of us exchanged glances in dismay.
Within a minute, we heard the muffled sounds of beating.
Matthew cried out in pain.
The department head was at a loss for what to do.
There was nothing we could do.
We could only turn a blind eye to it.
After all, Trevon was the most powerful entrepreneur in Washington D.C.
Matthew was the one who guided me through the formalities when I joined the department.
Though I felt bad for him, I was powerless.
Then, to my surprise, Trevon let go of Hannah and glanced at
me.

He walked to me, staring at me intently.
“Seraphina, you tell me. What happened?”
For a second, I didn’t follow.

But I believed Matthew and wanted to take the chance to help him.
“Mr. Parker, I believe Matthew was telling the truth. He’s been slapped; maybe there’s no need for him to apologize. Right?”
I was so nervous that I felt myself sweating profusely.
Then I saw him curling his lip.
I thought he believed me.
Yet, in the next second, he said, “Seraphina, you incited him to hit on Hannah, didn’t you?
“You haven’t changed a bit. You’re still so scheming, going all out to hurt Hannah.
“If I weren’t here today, what would your drunk colleague have done to her? You would have ruined her.”
I couldn’t process what he was talking about.
He didn’t believe me at all.
He even thought I was behind it.
Since he was standing so close to me, his authoritative aura made it hard for me to stand straight.
I smiled bitterly, trying my best to stand still.

“Mr. Parker, you overthought it, I wouldn’t dare to do such a thing.”
Yet, he refused to leave me alone,
He looked into my eyes; his chilling gaze made my abdomen numb.
“You wouldn’t dare to do such a thing? You pushed her downstairs three years ago. And now, you think you can trick me by playing the victim?”
He pressed my head against the wall.
I couldn’t move at all.
My colleagues were stupefied.
The department head took a step forward, wanting to help.
Trevon said sternly, “Piss off.”
No one dared to make a move anymore.
I looked behind him at those familiar faces, which brought me back to three years ago. When Trevon kicked me to the floor, they had the same looks on their faces. They looked at me condescendingly, feeling great at what was happening to me.
Then I looked at Trevon, whose face was filled with great hatred.
Suddenly, I felt exhausted.
Shrugging, I smiled.
I said straightforwardly, “Yeah, Mr. Parker, you’re right. I

“So, don’t hurt him anymore. Come at me. Let him out! Take me inside! Beat me! Beat me to death!”
As I went on, I got worked up.
Meanwhile, Matthew’s wail became louder.
Somehow, I was brave enough to look Trevon in the eye.
“Did you hear me? I said I was behind it! Come at me! Beat me! Not him!”
I was seething with rage, but my tears kept falling
uncontrollably.
My provocation failed.
They beat the crap out of Matthew.
