Chapter 7:
The doctor stepped out “The patient is out of danger but needs to rest “%
Just as Jonathan was about to go in, the doctor stopped him. “Mr. Dean said
The doctor paused awkwardly. “He said he doesn’t want to see anyone except Mrs. Daphne.
Dean still refused to see Jonathan
pressure
was unstable. So, it was best to avoid
The doctor spoke tactfully, saying the older
er man was too emotional and his blood pres upsetting him further for the time being

Jonathan stood outside the ward, feeling irritated.
He asked someone to send Wendy home, but he got into the car and didn’t start the engine for long.
He stuffed the divorce agreement into his suit pocket and the edge of the paper was poking his chest with a strong sense of presence.
Jonathan stared at the steering wheel, unable to wrap his head around it.
How could Daphne really leave him?1⁄2
She loved him so deeply and relied on him so entirely. Over the years, no matter how he neglected or hurt her, she silently endured it and eventually returned to his side.!!
How dare she file for divorce now??
She even retumed the heirloom his mother had left her
“No way…” he muttered, then suddenly slammed on the gas. The car roared as it sped off into the night
The night was deep and still, as Jonathan’s car pulled up outside the Lancaster residence
He sat in the car, waiting the entire night. Even as the first hint of down painted the horizon a pale white, no light flickered on in the house “Daphne” He finally lost all patience. He jumped out of the car and banged on the front door with strength.
The door opened, but it was a strange middle–aged man who looked at him sleepily. “Who is it? What kind of person banging like that in the middle of the night?“?
Jonathan was taken aback, then asked coldly. “Where’s Daphne?!
“Daphne?” The homeowner frowned. “This house was sold a long time ago in belongs to
o me now%
“Sold?” Jonathan’s pupils constricted his voice almost a growl as he forced the words out. When did she sell it?”

“About half a year ago, I think.” The homeowner waved his hand dismissively. “If you’re looking for someone, don’t ask me. I have no idea.”
The door slammed shut, leaving Jonathan standing on the steps, his chest heaving 8
Did she really sell the house?!
That house was the only thing her parents had left her. She’d lived there her whole life. It was her last safe haven.!
How could she have given that up, too?!
A sudden realization struck him. That woman was genuinely determined to leave.
He wouldn’t allow it. He couldn’t believe his wife was really gone!!
Besides the old house, the cemetery was the only other place she might go.
Jonathan drove straight towards the cemetery, only remembering halfway there that he hadn’t brought flowers. He hurriedly turned back, picking up a random bouquet of white chrysanthemums.
The cemetery was quiet and desolate. He strode quickly towards Daphne’s parents tombstone but abruptly halted as he approached
in front of the tombstone lay a fresh bouquet of flowers, dew still clinging to the petals. Beside it, several pieces of paper that hadn’t entirely burned fluttered slightly in the breeze. He bent down and picked them up. The handwriting on the paper was so familiar it stung
“Mom, Dad, I’m exhausted I don’t want to love Jonathan anymore.”
his eyes.
The man’s hand trembled violently, the paper rustling between his fingers.)
“Daphne he whispered. His heart felt like it was being squeezed tightly by an invisible hand.
Just then, a sudden gust of wind blew through. A dead tree branch fell out of nowhere, smacking Jonathan hard on the head with a loud crack
He stumbled, nearly falling grabbing onto the tombstone to steady himself.
He stared at the branch, a sudden chill running through him. Were Daphne’s parents blaming him for mistreating her?
But it wasn’t his fault entirely, was it? Wasn’t it because she couldn’t give him a child that he had looked elsewhere?
Jonathan turned to leave, but when he reached his car, he discovered that all four tires had been slashed and were completely flat
He kicked the car door hard. The metal rang
