Chapter 9
The next day, news about the Bamford family made headlines.
Edwin’s parents tried so hard to suppress the news before, and now Edwin made everyone know it again overnight.
After leaving my company, Edwin went straight to the police station.
He kept repeating his crimes, shouting, “Arrest me, you guys, arrest me! I’m guilty!”
He admitted all the crimes he committed against me and even offered to let the media report it.
He also clarified the relationship between the Rutledge family and the Bamford family, saying the Rutledge family was the victim and he was sorry to them.
His parents were too late to control the situation.
He sent himself to jail as he promised.
The reporters followed him all the way to the courthouse, capturing him being handcuffed and put into the police car. Before he got in, he looked at the camera, smiling with a tear in his eye.
“Bertha, do you see my sincerity now?”
I saw it, and I thanked him for making it easier for me to divorce.
After Edwin went to jail, I filed for divorce directly with the court. Without his consent, I got my freedom back.
Later, Edwin’s parents came to me several times, saying their son wanted to see me, asking if I could go visit him.
I smiled politely and then refused.
The Rutledge family would keep our promise and help the Bamford family until their business collapsed completely.
But I would never have anything to do with Edwin again.
Unfortunately, the Bamford family’s reputation was completely ruined. Their online and offline products were both attacked by everyone.
Suppliers and partners started to withdraw their investments, and within a month, the Bamford family declared bankruptcy.
My family helped the Bamford family until they were broke, but actually, we just made some useless comments online.
It gave our Rutledge family a good reputation, with respect to the
contract.
Partners who canceled cooperation with the Bamford family came to us one after another.
I also learned from my dad, becoming a manager in the company, seeing how busy this big company was.
After taking over the big business from the Bamford family, our Rutledge Group expanded further, and I was busy every day.
I was tired but very accomplished.
I increasingly felt that I was a fool in the past to revolve around a man. The world was so wonderful, there were so many opportunities, endless. money, and countless handsome guys. Why did I have to focus on that

man?
Many years passed. When I went to the new factory area with a partner, I saw a familiar family.
A family of three, dressed shabbily, lived in a five–square–meter shop selling breakfast. The business was not bad, and the customers kept coming.
The man’s eyes lit up for a moment when he saw me, then quickly turned his head in shame.
I casually looked back. I didn’t believe the story of a man regretting and trying to win a woman back.
In fact, we were no longer on the same social status. He couldn’t even afford to rent the house downstairs from my company.
To be honest, I admired their spirit of accepting their fall from grace and working hard to live.
My company just happened to choose this location for a new factory. It would bring more people here. The small shops around would benefit, and actually, the Rutledge family was still fulfilling our promise to help the Bamford family.
But our story ended there.
The end.
