Chapter 7
Edwin had always kept his back straight in public. But now, he bent at little.
He gave himself a slap with guilt and slowly raised his hands towards the police.
“What she said is all true. Please arrest me.”
Soon after Edwin was taken away, news about it spread rapidly among the rich and powerful.
Edwin’s parents used heavy–handed methods to hold the negative public opinion down. At the same time, they managed to bail Edwin out.
But Edwin didn’t want to get out. He thought he deserved it.
But still, his parents forcibly sent him home.
When Edwin got home, he saw my bedroom was filled with the mess left by him and Priscilla that day.
He knelt in front of my bed, blaming himself for being such a monster to
me.
Ever since we got married, I had been compromising with him all the time. But the thing was that his family was the one who benefited from this marriage.
At first, he broke his promise of protecting only Priscilla in his life. So, out of guilt, he had always favored her more.

But over time, he gradually forgot that I was his legal wife.
He grabbed his hair and pulled it with great force, causing him to feel pain in his scalp. Suddenly, his phone buzzed.
I was hus assistant’s message “Mr. Bamford, the paternity test resulti out ”
Edwin opened the report with his trembling fingers. He prayed in his heart.
When he saw the result showing that he was the baby’s biological father,
was so excited that he almost cried out.
He thought if he had really made me pregnant with another man’s child, he would be even worse than a monster.
But then, he saw another medical report of mine.
Because of massive bleeding and his kick on me in the stairwell that day, I had a miscarriage.
Seeing this report, Edwin finally came to a breakdown. He felt the slap he gave himself at the auction site was too light.
So now, he began to slap himself nonstop while crying heavily.
He was overwhelmed with guilt. He took out his phone and scrolled down his contact list. He dialed my number again and again, but the call just couldn’t get through.
He had no other choice but to call my dad.
This time, the phone was picked up soon, and Edwin’s palms were already covered in sweat.

“Mr. Rutledge, I want to see Bertha.”
When Dad got Edwin’s call, the three of us were having dinner.
After Dad picked up the phone, he glanced at me. At that moment, my heart skipped a beat, and I had a bad feeling.
Dad stood up, walked to the balcony, and then closed the glass door.
I had a good hearing, so I heard Dad snapping at Edwin in a deep voice, “You want to see Bertha? Edwin, have you not received the divorce agreement? Other than in the court, you’ll never see Bertha again!
“Are you a man or not? Haven’t you hurt her enough?
“If you dare to show up in front of her again, I’ll break your legs! You hear me?”
After Dad got back from the balcony, I pretended not to hear his
conversation with Edwin, and he also pretended not to have a call just now. The dinner continued.
Later, I began to learn from Dad about company management from the basics bit by bit.
In the past, when I was with Edwin, my focus was always on how to take care of the family as a good wife.
But now, I realized that I shouldn’t let a man be the center of my world.
What happened between me and Edwin was already in the past. I didn’t want to waste my time on him anymore.
Just as I thought Edwin would completely disappear from my world, I saw him the next day. He stopped our car right on the road.
He pleaded, “Bertha, I’m sorry. I know I’ve made a big mistake. But please, let me see you.
“I won’t leave if you don’t show up!”
Dad was so angry that he clenched his fists tightly, ready to get out of the car to teach him a good lesson.
But I stopped Dad and shook my head, saying, “Dad, no need to waste your time on him. The best way to get rid of him is to ignore him.”
Then, I turned my head and said to the driver, “Just ignore him. Drive.”
As I expected, as soon as the car started moving forward again, Edwin immediately dodged to the side quickly.
I sneered coldly, thinking, “I knew it. He won’t risk his life to just have a look at me.”
When Edwin found that he couldn’t get the chance to see me by stopping my car, he changed his plan and went to my family’s company to wait for
me.
When he was pressed to the ground by the security guard, he still raised. his head, calling out my name.
This was the first time I had found Edwin so annoying.
When he saw me walking towards him, his eyes instantly lit up glimmer of hope. “Bertha, can you hear my explanation?”

My dad warned me with a serious face, “If you dare to forgive him, I’ll look down on you!”
I grinned and said, “Don’t worry, Dad. I was fooled by him, but I’m not stupid.
