Chapter 5
After I got out of the car, I saw my parents already waiting at the gate of the yard.
I abruptly stopped in my tracks, biting my lower lip and daring not to look at them. In front of them, I felt like I was a child who had made huge.
mistakes.
They had been doting on me since I was born. But I got myself into trouble and put myself in danger right after I left them. I was already an adult, but I still needed them to clean up the mess I made.
Mom walked up and held me tightly in her arms, while Dad stood at the side, snorting coldly, “Still know to ask us for help. Looks like you’re not that stupid.”
Purchase completed
They told me that none of the things I was worried about happened.
Before the last item went on stage in the auction, the police arrived and blocked the scene on suspicion of spreading and selling obscene items.
The auction hall was in chaos, but all Edwin had in his eyes at the moment was the divorce agreement in front of him.
On the other hand, Priscilla didn’t have time to feel pleased about Edwin’s divorce. She needed to get out of there immediately.
“Edwin, what’s going on? Why are there so many cops? I’m so scared. Let’s get out of here, OK?”
But Edwin couldn’t hear her at the moment. Looking at the signature he signed three years ago, he panicked.

Chapter 5
Bertha’s parents‘ words to him three years ago echoed in his mind.
“Your grandpa helped our Rutledge family back then. So now, when your Bamford family is facing some trouble, we’re willing to help. That’s kind of repaying your grandpa’s favor.
“It just so happened that Bertha likes you. Our two families can form an alliance through marriage. It’s good for our mutual interest, and our Rutledge family’s reputation can also bring benefits to your family’s
business.
However, although it’s said that we’re to repay a favor, we don’t want to make it like we’re selling our daughter. So, if one day, our daughter doesn’t want to spend the rest of her life with you, I hope you can let her go. But of course, whether or not that day will come will not affect our attitude towards the Bamford family.”
When Edwin came back from his memories, his legs began to shake uncontrollably. He grabbed his assistant and asked repeatedly, “She only gave you this file bag? Nothing else! That’s impossible! She must’ve said something! You must be lying to me! How dare you! Tell me the truth, or I’ll fire you right now!”
The assistant was so scared, but he really didn’t lie to Edwin.
“Mrs. Bamford only said that she had got something else to do at home, so she asked the driver to send this to you. That’s really all.”
There were many people at the auction site, and the police were checking on them one by one.
Almost all the guests here were some kind of big shots in certain fields. However, the police still showed no mercy. That meant the person or the force behind this action was much more powerful.
Chapter 5
Seeing that the police were approaching, Priscilla began to sweat in her palms.
She hurriedly grabbed Edwin’s arm and said, “Come on, Edwin, Bertha must think she’s dirty. Any woman would feel ashamed if she had sex with three men at the same time. She initiated to divorce you because she wanted to save the last bit of her dignity. That’s nothing strange about it.
“Let’s hurry up and get out of here. It won’t be a good thing for us if we get involved in some cases the police are looking.”
But Edwin coldly shook her hands off his arm and stared at her with his sharp eyes.
“How could she possibly know that?”
Edwin then turned to look at his two buddies and asked, “You told her?”
The two of them immediately shook their heads and made a gesture of zipping their lips, saying, “Of course not, Edwin. Our lips are sealed!”
Edwin chuckled and then looked at Priscilla, asking coldly, “Priscilla, who do you think might be the whistleblower? Me?”
Priscilla was scared and instantly walked a few steps back, sweating on her forehead,
For the first time, Edwin felt that the girl in front of him had become different from his memory.
