The next day, Rebecca White wrapped up a long day at the office, saved her last document, powered down her computer, and slung her bag over her shoulder as she clocked out for the day. Exiting the elevator, she made her way through the lobby when a familiar voice stopped her in her tracks.
“Rebecca!”
With a slight shiver, she frowned and turned around.
“Rebecca!” Eddy bounded from the waiting area couch, jogging toward her.
Feigning ignorance, she said, “Finished for the day.”
Rebecca took a step back, “How did you find me here?”
“If I want to find out, I will,” Eddy replied, looking down at her with a pleading tone.
“Tired? How about dinner tonight?”
“Do you really think I can stomach a meal with you?”
Rebecca chuckled lowly, shaking her head. “Eddy, save your energy. You refuse to sign the papers, so I’ve filed for divorce. Wait for the court summons.” “Rebecca!”
Eddy stiffened, reaching out to grab her.
“Don’t touch me!”
Rebecca recoiled in horror, her face paling as if she had been greatly frightened.
“Rebecca?”
Eddy paused, realizing something. A bitter smile appeared on his lips, “I’m not going to hurt you. I know I was wrong, and I’ve changed…”
While speaking, he pulled a velvet box from his pocket, “I have a gift for you. I saw it and thought you’d like it…”
“I don’t want it!”
Rebecca showed no interest, “Stop doing this! All I want now is a divorce, to end this marriage…”
Her eyes welled up as she firmly met his gaze.
“If you have any respect for what we once had, please, let me go!”
With that, she turned and ran.
“Rebecca!”
Eddy chased after her.
“Ah…”
Rebecca’s breath became more ragged as she sped up. “Ah!”
Suddenly, she stumbled, her high heel caught in a drain, throwing her off balance. Worse still, she seemed to have twisted her ankle, the pain

Looking back, she saw Eddy nearly upon her.

From an angle, a tall, imposing figure rushed over, steadying her with a strong arm.
Rebecca looked up, surprised, “Mr. Johnson?”
Francis glanced at her, then at Eddy, a few steps away, without asking further, “Excuse me!”
He took her broken heel from her hand and, with his other arm, scooped her up.
His black Cayenne was parked nearby, and he quickly placed her inside.
“To the driver,” he commanded, “Drive!”
As the car pulled away, Francis glanced in the rearview mirror to Eddy still
in pursuit, but they soon

Turning his attention away, he examined the broken heel in his hand and then looked at Rebecca.
“Is he bothering you?”
Rebecca didn’t speak, just nodded.
Hearing this, Francis’s frown deepened, his expression darkening.
“He won’t agree to a divorce?”
Rebecca nodded again.
Francis let out a low, cold laugh, “Need my help?”
“No…”
Rebecca shook her head, gradually calming down. She turned to look at Francis and smiled.
“Thank you, but I’ve already filed for divorce.”
As for his persistence, as long as she ignored him, there wasn’t he could do once the court’s decision was made.
“Hmm.”
Francis nodded, “Who’s your lawyer?”
“Mr. Cooper, Nanson Cooper.”
