Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change?

Gilbert could easily picture Sherilyn stuffing slices of toast into her mouth, barely chewing before swallowing.

He told Naomi, “You don’t need to worry about this, go handle something else.”

“Sure thing, Mr. Johnson.”

Gilbert turned and left.

When he came back, he was carrying a thermos food container and headed straight for the makeup room as if it was his own home. Security and crew members greeted him as they saw him pass; nobody thought to stop him.

At that moment, Sherilyn had just finished getting her makeup done.

Feeling a bit hungry and not seeing Naomi around, she picked up her phone to look for her. “Where has that young lady gone off to?” Gilbert walked in, pulled up a chair in front of her, and placed the thermos food container on the makeup table.

“Feeling hungry?” he said with a smile.

Sherilyn looked at him, puzzled.

As Gilbert opened the thermos, he explained, “I ran into your assistant earlier. She told me you hadn’t had anything to eat.”

He gave her a light glare.

“What kind of assistant doesn’t even know you hate cilantro?”

“Pfft.”

Sherilyn couldn’t help but laugh. “Is it strange for an assistant not to know? She’s only been here a few days. You’ve only known for a short while yourself, and you’ve been my husband for years.” Her words were dripping with sarcasm, yet it sounded like she was complaining or cooing at him.

“It’s my fault.”

Gilbert’s gaze darkened slightly, genuinely apologetic. “My mistake… It won’t happen again.”

“Here.”

He pushed the thermos towards her. “Have some. The hotel chef made it just now, added vinegar and hot sauce, just the way you like it, sour and spicy. I remembered correctly, didn’t I?” Seeing him like this, Sherilyn felt it was pointless.

And considering what had happened between them the previous night…

Sherilyn felt her cheeks heating up uncomfortably.

Frowning, she said, “I don’t want it.”

“Why?” Gilbert looked puzzled. “Not hungry?”

“No.” Sherilyn pointed to her headpiece, honestly saying, “It’s inconvenient to eat like this.” Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Then he asked, “Want to start with the soup?”

He remembered that was her usual preference.

Sherilyn was silent, not objecting.

Taking that as consent, Gilbert scooped up some broth, blew on it gently, and brought it to her lips.

“Careful, it’s hot. Ah… open up.”

Sherilyn quietly complied, opening her mouth to take the spoon.

“How’s the taste?” Gilbert looked at her expectantly.

“Mm.” Sherilyn responded softly, her voice slightly hoarse as if her throat was dry.

“Open your mouth a bit wider.”

Gilbert continued, feeding her a dumpling next, his eyes curving with a smile as he watched her.

Sherilyn took it, her cheeks puffing out with the effort.

“Heh.” Gilbert laughed softly.

“What’s so funny?” Sherilyn looked at him, puzzled.

“You’re cute,” Gilbert said, his spoon-holding hand reaching out to gently touch her cheek.

“Jenna eats just like you do. Pretty mommy, pretty baby.”

Suddenly, Sherilyn felt a flush on her cheeks, warmth spreading across her face.
