Gilbert swung open the car door and practically shoved Sherilyn inside.
“My car…” Sherilyn protested, anxiety evident in her voice. She had driven herself here.
“Give me your keys!”
He snatched the car keys from her hand. “I’ll have someone drive it back to Sunset Ridge Community for you!”
With that, he climbed into the driver’s seat. Callie tried to follow them into the car, but when she pulled on the door handle, it was locked.
She knocked on the car window, “Hey, open up!”
But Gilbert acted as if he hadn’t heard her, completely ignoring her plea, and started the car, pulling away.
“Hey!”
Callie ran after the car for a few steps, puzzled, “What’s going on?” Weren’t they supposed to have broken up? In Mr. Gilbert’s eyes, why did it seem like the moment he saw her, nobody else existed?
Inside the car, Sherilyn looked at Gilbert with confusion, “Why did you leave Callie behind?” Hadn’t they just been all over each other a moment ago?
“Are you seriously worried about someone else right now?”
Gilbert glanced at the bloody mess on her forehead, feeling a mix of tenderness and irritation. “What was that woman’s problem anyway?” He was referring to Yuna. Sherilyn didn’t want to answer, “It’s nothing.”
“She said you stole her man?” Gilbert scoffed coldly. “Who? That new boyfriend of yours?”

Gilbert cautiously eyed her expression, “Is your headache really bad?”

“Then I’ll drive faster!”

Hospital.
Emergency room.
The doctor cleaned Sherilyn’s wound briefly, “You’ll need a couple of stitches.”
What? Sherilyn was taken aback, not expecting her injury to be so severe. She tensed up immediately.
Sensing her nervousness, Gilbert placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, “Don’t be scared, the bleeding will stop once it’s stitched.” “Let’s move to the treatment room,” the doctor stood up, leading them.
Pointing to a chair, he instructed, “Have a seat.”
“Okay.” Sherilyn nodded and complied.
As the doctor began preparing, he reminded her, “We’ll need to administer a local anesthetic. It might sting a bit when I inject it.” “Okay, I understand.”
Sherilyn took a deep breath, silently clenching her fists. Blood was still oozing from her forehead, and Gilbert pressed a gauze pad against it. Seeing her in such a state his tension matched hers.
The doctor was ready and positioned himself behind the chair, signaling to Sherilyn.
“Tilt your head back and lean it against the pillow.”
“Okay.”
“I’m going to inject the anesthetic now.”

Sherilyn felt darkness envelop her vision, and then her hands, resting in her lap, were gently taken into his.

“Does it hurt?” Gilbert’s voice was tight with concern as he glanced at the doctor, “Doctor, she’s in pain!”
The doctor paused, a bit taken aback, then explained, “I know it hurts. I did warn beforehand. The anesthetic will start working soon.” “How long will that take?”
The doctor was momentarily at a
loss for words. If it weren’t for the fact that the patient was quite tall, he might have suspected he was dealing with an overprotective parent of a small child.
