Gilbert drove them to the hospital for Rebecca’s follow-up appointment. The results showed that her condition was stable, and after a discussion with Gilbert, the doctors set a new date for her surgery. Rebecca was relieved but slightly anxious, “I just hope nothing goes wrong this time.”
“Just relax,” Sherilyn reassured her. “I have some free time coming up and can stay with you during your surgery.”
“Really? That would be wonderful!”
After the appointment, Gilbert went to fetch the car while Sherilyn and Rebecca waited at the entrance. When Gilbert reached the parking lot, a group of men blocked his way.
Leading them was Nolan. Gilbert remembered him as Naylor’s right-hand man.
“What do you want?” Gilbert asked, instinctively frowning.
“Mr. Nine, good day,” Nolan said with a polite smile. “The boss wants to see you and sent me to bring you.”
Gilbert scoffed, “And I’m supposed to just go because he wants me to?”
“Mr. Nine,” Nolan chuckled, already prepared, “Ms. Gomez and Ms. White are currently on their way to Blue Haven.”
What?
Gilbert’s eyes flashed with anger as his face clouded over. Naylor, that scumbag, always resorted to threatening women!
Grinding his teeth, Gilbert barked, “I’ll come with you! But don’t lay a finger on them-not a single hair!”
Nolan bowed slightly, “Mr. Nine, don’t worry.”

Blue Haven.
As Gilbert stepped inside, he heard voices before seeing anyone.
“Sherilyn! Sherilyn!”
On the couch, Sherilyn and Rebecca sat side by side, both looking bewildered and confused about what was happening. Hearing the voice, they immediately stood up and responded, “We’re here!” Gilbert entered the living room and quickly spotted them. He approached Sherilyn, putting a hand on her shoulder and examining her closely.
“Are you alright? Did they scare you? Did anyone touch you?”
“No…” Sherilyn was baffled. While waiting for Gilbert, they had been inexplicably cornered and forcibly brought here. Then, suddenly, Gilbert appeared. Was this related to him? Frowning, Sherilyn asked quietly, “What’s going on?”
Gilbert’s brow furrowed, “It’s complicated. Let’s get out of here first.”
His arm moved to take her hand.
“Hold onto Rebecca White!”
“Got it!”
“Where are we going?”
Someone was coming downstairs. Naylor appeared somewhat

disheveled, breathing unevenly, and offered Gilbert a weary smile, “Leaving so soon? It would be a pity if MS Gomez’s visit was for nothing.”
“Don’t be afraid,” Gilbert said, looking down at Sherilyn. “I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Letting go of her hand, he stepped toward Naylor, teeth clenched, “Why did you bring her here? If you have a problem, come at me!”
His anger was palpable, causing Naylor to frown, “She’s fine, isn’t she? Just a bit startled, that’s all.”
“Even being startled is too much!” Gilbert was livid. “Do you have any idea how precious she is? If something happens to her, can you afford it? Was I not clear enough? I’m not interested in your Harrison family drama!”
“Understood,” Naylor nodded, “But…”
His gaze shifted, taking on a different tone, “After all these years, don’t you want to see your mother?”
What?
That simple statement seemed to explode in Gilbert’s mind!
“My… mother?” Gilbert’s eyes trembled, his voice barely a whisper as if he couldn’t grasp what was said, “My… mom?” “Surprised?” Naylor watched him with a hint of amusement, “What, did you forget you had a mother?”
Of course, he hadn’t!
After escaping the clutches of the Harrison family, Gilbert had thought many times about the woman who lived in that small house, the one they called crazy. He had tried to
