Gilbert dropped Sherilyn off at the film set, her eyes still slightly red and swollen from crying. He held her hand firmly, escorting her onto the bustling set without a second thought.
Rumors about their relationship had already set social media on fire, so naturally, everyone at the set was buzzing with speculation and gossip.
“There she is! Sherilyn’s really living a fairy tale, isn’t she?”
“Guess we’ll be calling her Mrs. Johnson soon, huh? Mr. Johnson himself making it official!”
“Man, doing well is great and all, but marrying well? That’s the jackpot!”
Feeling the weight of stares coming from all directions, Sherilyn frowned, attempting to free her arm from his grip.
“We’re here.”
“Yeah.”
Gilbert wasn’t about to let the onlookers have a field day at their expense. He let go of her hand, “I’ll pick you up later tonight.”
He was a man of leisure these days, with nothing but time on his hands.
Sherilyn glanced at him, nodded silently, and turned to walk inside.
“Sherilyn!”
Karol immediately came up to her, all smiles, pulling her aside and nodding towards the entrance, “Mr. Johnson brought you, huh?”
“Yeah.” A flicker of irritation crossed Sherilyn’s face.
“That’s so cool!”
Karol pouted in envy, “You know, your official announcement broke the internet! You haven’t even made your big debut and you’re already the talk of the town! The show’s getting a ton of buzz because of you! The hot searches are all about you and this project…” As Karol chattered away, Sherilyn couldn’t muster any interest, only feeling annoyed.
“Sherilyn.”
The makeup team’s assistant approached, her tone oozing flattery and caution, “You’re here? It’s time for your makeup, are you ready?” “Sure.”
Sherilyn quickly nodded, eager to get away, “I’ll head over now.”
Glancing at Karol, “I’ll go do my makeup then.”
“Go ahead, go ahead.” Karol nodded enthusiastically, “I’ll grab us some coffee, want one?”

Leaving the set, Gilbert received a call from Sawyer.
“Mr. Gilbert, Ms. Bennett’s awake. She’s been moved from the ICU to a regular room. Would you like to come over?” “Sure.”
Gilbert agreed, “I’m on my way.”
Now, it seemed, he and his brother had switched roles; with his brother busy running the company, and Caroline being injured because of him, it was only right for Sawyer to reach out to him.
Arriving at the hospital, Caroline was already settled in her room. Though awake, her injuries meant she was confined to her bed for now, a neck brace in place and a few minor scrapes marring her otherwise pale face.
Seeing Gilbert enter, she attempted a smile, struggling to sit up.

Gilbert quickly pressed a hand to her shoulder, his brow furrowed with concern, “You need to stay lying down for now.”
“Yeah…”
Caroline winced in pain, nodding, “I know, just forgot for a moment when I saw you.”
“I’m sorry.” Gilbert’s voice was tinged with regret, “This is my fault… I’m sorry you’re going through this.”
Caroline shook her head firmly, “Don’t say that! How could this be your fault? Anyway, have they found out who’s behind this?” “Hmm.” Gilbert’s frown deepened, but he offered no details.
“…The Harrisons?” Caroline guessed, her voice low.
“Yes.” Gilbert confirmed.
Knowing about his background, it wasn’t surprising for Caroline to suspect the Harrisons.
But he didn’t elaborate, “Let’s not worry about that now. Just focus on getting better.” “Alright, I understand.”
Caroline nodded, realizing that in her condition, she wouldn’t be able to help anyway. Plus, dealing with the Harrisons was something for the Johnson brothers to handle together.
