“Sherilyn!” Gilbert’s voice cut through the noise, desperate, “Sherilyn!” Hearing her name, Sherilyn turned around abruptly.
But the crowd inside was too thick; her view was completely blocked.
“Hold on!”
Gilbert tried to catch up, but the elevator doors closed right in front of him.

Gilbert slammed his hand against the door, biting back a curse, then turned and ran for the fire escape.
By the time he reached the ground floor, his heart was racing, breaths short and choppy.
But he couldn’t stop; bursting through the lobby, he finally caught up to Sherilyn on the lawn in front of the surgery building.
