Sherilyn grabbed her phone, dialing Gilbert’s number.
No answer.
Was he busy, or just didn’t hear it?
Just as she was about to try again, Lauren approached her.
“Ms. Sherilyn! There you are. The director’s looking for you. We’re having a quick meeting.”
“Alright, I’m on my way.”
Sherilyn had no choice but to put her phone away and head to the meeting.
After the meeting, she returned to the rehearsal space.
As soon as she opened the door, Callie rushed towards her.
“Ms. Sherilyn, you’re back? Perfect timing, I’ve got a question for you.”
Thinking it was about dance techniques, Sherilyn prompted her to continue.
Callie frowned and said, “It’s this-where’s Caroline, our lead? Why hasn’t she shown up yet?”
Sherilyn was taken aback, not expecting this question.
Looking at the other performers, their faces showed a mix of awkwardness, dissatisfaction, and mockery.
“Well…”
“Ha.”
Everyone just chuckled, avoiding a direct answer.
Callie persisted, “Ms. Sherilyn, is she dealing with something?”
“I’m not sure,” Sherilyn shook her head, telling the truth. “I’m here to assist the performers. As for their schedules… I have no idea.”
Somebody sighed, “She’s missed several practices, not just today.”
“Last time, we all waited for her, but she never showed.”
“Will she be coming to today’s rehearsal?”
“It’s hard to say…”
“Well, she’s a star, always busy.”
Hearing this, Callie’s eyebrows knit together in disapproval. “If she’s too busy, then maybe she shouldn’t be our lead, right? What do you think, Ms. Sherilyn?”
“That’s… not really for me to say,” Sherilyn replied, caught in a
position. It wasn’t about a difficult
conflict; she was just being honest.
Callie thought for a moment, “I’m going to talk to Lauren!”
She found Lauren and declared, “If Caroline can’t fulfill her role as the lead, affecting our performance, shouldn’t we replace her?”
Then confidently added, “I can take the lead!”
Lauren, like Sherilyn, didn’t have the authority to decide.
“What, no?”
Callie smirked, “Fine, I’ll talk to the director myself. You all might be afraid of her, but I’m not!”
With a flick of her wrist, she stormed off.
“Callie…” Lauren tried to stop her, panic-stricken.
“Why are you stopping me? I hate it when people hog the spotlight without delivering!”
Just then, the door swung open.
Caroline walked in with her assistant, bumping into Callie.
“Callie? Long time no see. What’s the matter? Who upset you?”

“What about me? Am I wrong?” Callie looked at her with contempt. “Don’t give me that victim look!”
Caroline, struggling to contain her anger, turned away, “Vulgar!”
“Vulgar?” Callie laughed in frustration. “I come from a reputable family, a true lady, unlike you, who seems to have sprung up from nowhere!”
“You…” Caroline was shaking with anger, her face flushing.
Sherilyn watched from the side, thinking: These two seem to have a history, and not a friendly one.
The tension was palpable, ready to explode.
“You!” Callie stood tall, staring Caroline down, emphasizing each word, “Give up the lead role!”
