“Look, I said it, alright?”
Francis let out a long, tired sigh, a mix of exhaustion and resignation in his voice.
“But you know the state Rebecca’s in, right? She’s got no one. If I don’t step in, her husband’s gonna beat her to death!”
Gilbert wanted to say something but ended up just shutting his mouth.
Could he really stop his brother?
Rebecca was James’ mom! For James’ sake, his brother couldn’t just stand by and do nothing!
Besides, Rebecca was indeed in a tragic situation.
Her current misery, it all started because of his brother!
At the TV station.
Due to scheduling conflicts among the stars, Sherilyn had to give them individual guidance throughout the day. They had agreed in their group chat to meet up in the evening for a full rehearsal.
However, not everyone could make it.
Caroline was the exception.
She didn’t show up at the agreed time, and as the rehearsal time approached, there was still no sign of her. Everyone was waiting on her.
Lauren, the assistant, called her up, and Caroline answered.
“Hey, Caroline, we’re about to start the rehearsal. Did you get tied up with something today? Maybe we can reschedule?”
“So sorry about that.” Caroline was apologetic, repeatedly saying sorry, “Had some hiccups with the shoot today. I’m on my way now, won’t delay the rehearsal! Dinner’s on me tonight!” “No worries, Caroline.”
Since she said so, Sherilyn and the others could only wait.
Just after hanging up, Caroline’s phone rang again.
“Hello?”
On the other end of the line was the private detective she’d hired.
“Ms. Bennett, got some dirt for you. Mr. Francis’ been frequently visiting a place, Maple Grove House.
Servants come and go, a woman lives there, guarded by vigilant security. Couldn’t snap a photo.”
“Alright, got it. Send me the address.”
After hanging up, the detective promptly sent over the address: Maple Grove House.
Caroline clenched her teeth, instructing her driver, “Forget the TV station, head to Maple Grove House!”
At Maple Grove House.
Gilbert looked troubled as he spoke to Francis, “Francis, what’s your plan with Rebecca White… You don’t have… other intentions, do you?” “What intentions could I possibly have?”
Francis gave his brother a look, “What happened between her and me was accidental. Taking care of her is for James’ sake.”
He continued, “She doesn’t know it’s
me; I’ve never shown my face to her. Once her eyes are healed, I’ll deal with Eddy for good, to give James some peace.”
James couldn’t call her mom, but at least, he wanted to ensure she could live a decent life…
Gilbert frowned and nodded, “Do you need me to do something?”
“Mr. Francis!” Sawyer rushed in again, panic-stricken, “Ms. Bennett is here!”
Francis frowned, glancing at his brother.
“It’s not me,” Gilbert hurriedly clarified, “I found this place because Rebecca White called Sherilyn.”
So, what about Caroline?
Francis smirked, her suspicions had always been there.
“Sawyer.”
With urgency in his voice, Francis commanded, “Take Rebecca out through the back door, now! Hurry!”
“Right away, Mr. Francis!” Sawyer complied and hurried off.
“Move!”
Caroline had already barged into the yard, with the security trying their best to stop her, “Ms. Bennett, you can’t go in there!” “Out of my way!”
Caroline’s eyes blazed with fury as she stared down the security, “Who do you think you are, trying to stop me? Even if Francis were here, he’d have to listen to me!”
