“Uh?” David was taken aback, “Ms. Sherilyn…” “David, relax.”
Sherilyn smiled gently, explaining, “You go ahead. I came straight from the hospital to the dance studio this morning. I need a shower and to change clothes. If Gilbert asks, just tell him I’ll be a bit late.”
“Oh, I see.” David sighed in relief, “Then I’ll deliver the stuff first. Call me before you leave, and I’ll come pick you up.”
“Thanks, David.”
“No problem.”
After sending David off, Sherilyn turned and went upstairs to grab some clothes from the wardrobe before heading to the bathroom.
Her excuse was genuine; she really did need to freshen up.
As she was drying her hair after the shower, Sherilyn couldn’t stop yawning, tears streaming down her face from exhaustion.
Exiting the bathroom, she felt dizzy and collapsed onto the bed.
The moment her head hit the pillow, sleep overwhelmed her. She thought, just a little nap, just couldn’t keep her eyes open anymore. With her eyes shut, she drifted off to sleep.
David delivered the suitcase to the hospital room, where a nurse was changing Gilbert’s IV bag.
He glanced over his shoulder, not seeing Sherilyn. “Where’s Sherilyn?” he asked.
“Ms. Sherilyn didn’t come…”
David relayed Sherilyn’s message, “That’s the situation. She said she’ll come later.”
With that, he took the suitcase into the dressing room, “I’ll just put this away.”
“Okay.”
Gilbert nodded, a frown slowly forming on his face, his unease growing stronger.
As the daylight faded outside the window and Sherilyn still hadn’t appeared, he became restless and picked up his phone to call her.
It took two tries to get through.
“Hello?” Sherilyn’s voice was groggy, her eyelids stuck together, not opening, “Who is it? What’s up?”
“Sherilyn.” Hearing her voice, Gilbert guessed, “Are you sleeping?”
“Uh…” Sherilyn wasn’t fully awake yet, “I’m really tired. What’s up?”
Gilbert paused, his lips parting slightly, “Nothing, then… go back to sleep.”
“Okay.”
Without a second’s hesitation, she hung up, not even giving Gilbert a chance to say goodbye. “Sherilyn?”
Gilbert held the phone, stunned for a
moment, the call already
disconnected… a surge of irritation rose in him! Sherilyn was actually not coming back!
All of a sudden, he lifted his arm, flicked his wrist, and his brand-new phone went flying to the floor, smashing into pieces with a loud crash!

Charles just walked in and saw this scene, quickly stepping forward.
He knew why Gilbert was upset. While calling for a cleaner, he said, “Mr. Gilbert, I’ll go and pick up Sherilyn right now.”
With that, he turned to leave.
“Stop!” Gilbert called out just as Charles took a step.
Gilbert’s face darkened. “Who gave you the permission to decide on your own? Sherilyn is sleeping. Don’t disturb her rest!”
Charles was taken aback. Is Mr. Gilbert serious?
He’s in this condition, and Sherilyn, as his girlfriend, should be here with him.
Mr. Gilbert obviously thinks the same, yet he’s still concerned about her sleep?
Besides, is it not possible to sleep in this hospital room?

“Yes,” Charles had no choice but to agree.
Sherilyn slept through to the next morning, not even waking up for dinner the previous night.
Feeling refreshed, she headed downstairs, where the housekeeper had already arrived, and breakfast was ready.
Taking her time to eat, she checked the time. It was time to visit the hospital.
