As I expected, before I could even say a word, Anne stepped out of the car.
She looked at me with concern plastered across her face and said, “Kelly, where have you been these past few days? Lennox and I were so worried about you. Especially, Lennox. He has been so anxious that he can’t even eat. Look at him, he’s lost so much weight. It’s heartbreaking.”
Her words sounded caring, but they were laced with provocation.
“He’s your husband. If you’re heartbroken over him, that’s your business. What does it have to do with me?” I spoke lightly as if it didn’t matter, but my words caused Lennox’s face to turn white.
His hands trembled slightly as if he was overwhelmed with heartache. “Kelly, from the beginning to the end, the
only person I’ve ever wanted to marry is you.”
Hearing this, I felt nothing but disgust. I looked at him, my gaze sharp with irritation. “Lennox, do you really think
I’m an idiot? Do I need to spell everything out for you?”
Then I said again, “You already got a marriage certificate with her, yet you still wanted to have a wedding with
me. What did you take me for?
He was married. Our relationship would never be legally recognized. I would become the third party, the one people pointed fingers at. If there was one thing I despise most, it was being a homewrecker.
“No, Kelly, you’ve got it wrong,” he said, his voice rising in desperation and panic. “It’s just a marriage in name only. There’s no love between us!”
Anne’s expression shifted ever so slightly at his words, but she quickly concealed it. Then as she clutched her
stomach, she let out a sudden cry of pain.
“Lennox, my stomach hurts. Can you take me to the hospital? Please, something feels wrong with the baby!”
Lennox froze. He was torn between us. The hesitation in his eyes was clear.
I let out a bitter laugh. “You’d better hurry and take your wife to the hospital. Don’t let anything happen to your
son.”
Not waiting for his response, I turned around, flagged down a taxi and left them behind.
I thought I had made everything clear. Lthought I’d finally be free of the Green family.
I never expected that as I got off work and stepped out of the elevator to my apartment the next day, I saw Mrs.
Green waiting by my door.
The moment she saw me, she dropped to her knees. “Please,” she sobbed, her voice trembling. “I’m begging you, please let my son go. He has a wife now and they’re going to have a baby. They can’t live without him!”
At that time, it was time for my neighbor to return home from work so there were many people walking out from
the elevator when she wailed loudly.

When they saw the scene in front of them, they paused to watch
“From the sound of it, this woman’s a homewrecker,” someone murmured. “It seems she is destroying her son
and daughter–in–law’s relationship.”
“Look at her all dolled up. She doesn’t seem like a decent person. I can’t believe she’s really a mistress.”
“What a disgrace. How can someone like her live here?”
When I heard their whispered accusation, fury flamed inside me and I couldn’t hold back anymore, “It just so
happens that is exactly what I want to say to you. Please, tell your son to let me go. Tell him to stop showing up at
my home and my workplace. Tell him to leave me alone!”
I had already warned Lennox that I wasn’t someone who clung to people who didn’t deserve me. If he did
something that disappointed me, I would leave immediately without any hesitation. Once I make that decision, I won’t look back, just like today.
After I said that, I saw a man running out of the fire escape in a hurry.
Lennox ran so fast that his face was red from exertion. He looked at me with disappointment. Since he was out
of breath, he spluttered, “Kelly … do you really mean what you just said?”
I looked him straight in the eye, my voice calm but resolute. “Yes. I want you and your entire family to stay out of
my life. I never want to see any of you again.”
His mother suddenly shot to her feet. “Fine! Remember what you said today,” she said, her tone sharp
and condescending. “Don’t you dare come running back to us later! Also, stay away from my son and my daughter–in–law. If you cause any more trouble, don’t blame me for being ruthless!”
