My boyfriend Antonio Kaufman was kissing another girl.
I thought we’d get married after five years together.
Devasted, I was gonna confront him when a car ran me over.
When I woke up, I found myself in the hospital. Antonio was playing with his phone by my bed.
“Who are you?” I asked.
In the past five years, he never made our relationship public.
If he did this time, I’d forgive him.
“You don’t remember? I’m your boss, Antonio Kaufman. Well, have a good rest.”
Then, he left.
My heart broke.
I decided to end this painful relationship.
“Uncle, I’ll accept the marriage you arranged for me,” I told him over the phone.
My uncle was thrilled. “Grace, you finally agreed! You wasted five years on that scum. And he wouldn’t even make your relationship public. You should’ve dumped him long ago!”
“When are you coming home? I just texted them. The guy’s family wanna set a date for the wedding.”

I was with Antonio for five years, and he kept our relationship
a secret.
I handed in my resignation. Since he’d been hiding our relationship, I guessed he’d approve it.
I told my uncle, “I’ll be back once my resignation gets approved.”
Antonio returned for his car keys. He happened to hear what I said.
“Resignation? Is someone quitting in our company?”
My resignation needed his approval. I couldn’t keep it from him, so I nodded.
But he was focused on his phone and didn’t see me nod.
He took his car keys and said, “The doctor said you hit your head hard. It might cause memory loss. I thought you’d forgotten everything.”
“I was driving the car. It was dark, and you were playing with your phone…”
I couldn’t believe it. At this point, he was still lying to me.
I saw him in the passenger seat when I got run over.
The driver was the girl he kissed passionately.
I thought he felt guilty and didn’t know how to face me after hurting me.
Turns out he didn’t take me seriously. How ironic!

Since he didn’t take me seriously, I decided to play along and pretend nothing happened.
He turned his head, looking confused at my indifferent face.
He must be wondering what was going on. If it were before, I would’ve asked him to kiss me and hug me.
After checking no one was around, Antonio comforted me. “Grace, too many people. It’d be bad if others saw us. Take care. I’ll make it up to you once you’re out.”
I replied with a smile, “Hmm. Thank you, boss.”
In private, I’d call him “boss” just to be playful.
But now, Antonio frowned as he sensed the indifference in my voice.
He was about to say something when the doctor came in, and he turned cold again.
He said, “Have a good rest. No one gets to break the rules of my company, no matter how special you are.”
The doctor saw my fake smile and teased, “Your boss has left. No need to keep smiling like that. But actually, your boss is good to you. He even paid your medical bill.”
My smile turned bitter.
