Chapter 144
Upon returning to the ward, Grace found that Devin was awake and attempting to get out of bed.
Seeing that, she strode over, put down the kettle, and pressed him back. onto the bed.
“Didn’t you promise me you’d rest? Why are you getting up again?”
Devin looked a bit better, but his voice was still a bit hoarse.
“You’ve been away for too long, and I miss you.”
Grace glanced at her watch and saw that she had only been out for less. than ten minutes.
Noticing the fleeting emotion in his eyes, she couldn’t help but press the space between her eyebrows.
“You often say I lie to you, but actually, you’re the best liar. I don’t think you missed me. You just want to keep an eye on me, don’t you?”
Devin covered his mouth and coughed, feigning a look of deep grievance.
“I’m just worried about you. With all the commotion outside, if I don’t go check, wouldn’t I be failing my duty as a husband?”
Grace knew that he genuinely cared about her. Therefore, she gently held his hand and recounted to him what had just happened.
“I ran into Antonio while going out to refill the kettle. He asked me to divorce you, but I refused, and he got so angry that he even tripped. To annoy him, I even called him disgusting.”
When Devin heard that, a faint smile appeared on his pale face.
“Well said. He is indeed quite disgusting.”
Grace felt his forehead with the back of her hand. Seeing his light smile, she couldn’t resist teasing him.
“I didn’t know the legendary Mr. Hudson, known for his spotless reputation, would also speak ill of others?”
Noticing her snicker, Devin gently pulled her into his arms.
“I’m also a mortal with emotions and desires, so of course I would speak ill of others and do bad things.”
“Bad things? What kind of bad things?”
Her puzzled expression was adorable, and Devin could no longer resist. He slightly lowered his head and kissed her on the lips.
Grace’s face instantly turned extremely red. She raised her hand and pinched his waist.
Meanwhile, she said in a shy tone, “How could you kiss me while in a cold? If I get infected, I’ll hold you accountable.”
A light kiss was far from enough to quench his thirst. Hearing her coquettish tone, Devin became bolder and directly cupped the back of her head.
The distance between them got closer and closer.
Devin’s hot breath pressed against Grace’s car as he said in a deep voice, “Really? Then let’s have a serious kiss.”
Looking into those tender eyes so close, Grace swallowed the words of refusal that were on the tip of her tongue.
She turned her head and saw no one outside the ward, then closed her
cyes.
“Okay, but you must never say that I lie to…”
Before she could finish speaking, a pair of soft lips covered hers and swallowed the rest of her words.
Their lips were entwined, and an atmosphere of intimacy filled the room.
Grace embraced him back, and her tense body slowly relaxed, melting into his burning chest.
She couldn’t hear or see anything except for the pounding of her heart.
The kiss lasted so long that she began to feel lightheaded from lack of Oxygen.
Her mind went completely blank, and she could hardly distinguish who or where she was.
The only thing she could be sure of was that she liked this kiss.
And, she also liked the man who was kissing her.
