By the time Hera woke up, it was 2:00 pm the next day. Her entire head was throbbing due to the hangover.
She got up and noticed that she was in an unfamiliar environment, and even her clothes had been changed. After some thinking, she finally recalled visiting Samantha’s place last night.
She reached for her phone that was charging by the bedside and checked through her WhatsApp messages. After answering all her unread texts, she finally listened to Bernard’s voice message sent at 3:00 am.
“Sweetie, something suddenly came up, so I’m not sure when I’ll be back. It may take two or three days or even a week.
“Take care of yourself during this period. Call me if you need anything, or you can contact Douglas. Wait for my return. I love you.” She could vaguely make out the sounds of him driving while he spoke.
Hera scoffed before nonchalantly tossing her phone aside. She certainly wasn’t going to wait for him.
“You’re awake, Hera. The food delivery has just arrived. Quickly wash up before having some food.” At that moment, Samantha pushed the door open and entered the room.
“Sure.” Hera got out of bed. After washing up, she headed to the living room, where Samantha had already laid out the food on the dining table. She even prepared a hangover pill for her.
“I didn’t do anything odd last night, right?” Hera asked while pulling out a chair to sit.
Samantha, sitting opposite her, seemed unsure what to reply. Hera suddenly had a gut feeling that something had gone wrong. She usually blacked out after drinking and had no memory of whatever she did.
“Nothing much.” After considering it,
Samantha continued, “Mr. Killian called you last night. You blamed him for not loving you anymore and agreeing to break up. You wouldn’t even let him take back his presents…”
Hera sharply inhaled in disbelief. “Did I really say all that?”
Samantha nodded. “You almost cried. I think Mr. Killian feels very guilty and doesn’t want to break up anymore.
“You little hypocrite. Last night, I thought you guys were roleplaying some kind of scenario, but you even lost control of your emotions.”
The thought of what happened made Hera put her hand against her forehead in embarrassment. No wonder Bernard sent her such a voice message.
That damn alcohol. She vowed not to drink so recklessly again. If she wanted to drink, she would have to block Bernard first.
“Hera, you don’t have to break up if you feel so miserable about it. M Killian is actually quite decent. If you still love him, you can give him a chance to prove himself,” Samantha advised.
Whether Hera wanted to break up or not, Samantha, as her best friend would always support her decision. But she also felt distressed when she saw how upset Hera was.
She could tell that Hera truly liked Bernard, who had gone overboard. He had taken advantage of Hera’s trust in him and tricked her.
Hera took her hangover pill without a word. Did she still love Bernard? She couldn’t say that she didn’t.
But as she recalled everything that happened after they reunited, she suddenly recalled Tyler once asking her, “How do you know that Bernard would never lie to you?”
