When Xavier saw how miserable Yvette looked, he panicked. Then, he immediately took her back home. When they returned to his house, he grabbed a shirt and covered her up. “What did you want to ask me?” “Did you have a twin brother?” She held the photo in her hand tightly, but she didn’t show it to him right
away.
When he heard her mention Jeremiah, his gaze turned cold instantly. He let go of her arm and said, “Yes.” “Why haven’t I heard about him before? Where is he now?” she continued asking.
Xavier pursed his lips and looked angry. “Did you come looking for me at the banquet so suddenly for this?
She continued looking straight at him, and he smirked. “It’s the Lane family’s business, and you don’t have to know about it.”
When Yvette heard that, she knew he didn’t know much about it. She was glad that she hadn’t shown him the photo. She secretly put it in her pocket and said, “I understand. I won’t ask about it anymore.” Xavier continued probing. “Why are you suddenly asking about him?”
Jeremiah was a forbidden subject in the Lane family, and no one dared to mention him. The housekeepers who knew about Jeremiah also knew that Xavier hated it when they talked about him. “Did someone say something to you?” he asked again.
Yvette didn’t tell him the truth, so she lied. “I heard you talking to Madam Shannon before and learned that you had a brother. When I returned from a walk earlier, I heard someone mention it, and I wanted to ask you about it.”
It was such a lame lie that Xavier didn’t believe it at all. After all, he had seen how anxious Yvette had been when she had come looking for him. She had seemed so lost that it had felt like something terrible had happened.
“I’m sorry. I was too anxious earlier, and I’ve embarrassed you.” She slowly calmed herself down as she apologized.
Xavier stopped asking about it. “Don’t ever mention him in front of me again.”
The banquet was still going on, so he went back out instead of staying in the house.
After he had left, no one else was there. That was when Yvette dared to take out the photo she had been holding so tightly earlier.
When she looked at the gentle teenager in the photo, her heart suddenly ached, and her eyes brimmed
with tears.
She repeatedly touched the young man’s smiling face and asked, “I’m not making a mistake, right?” Only the sound of the leaves dancing in the wind outside answered her. Now that she had seen the photo, her childhood memories started coming back to her. Yvette sat on the couch, unable to stop thinking about that gentle young man.

When Xavier returned, he noticed that she had fallen asleep there without changing her clothes. He quickly approached her. Just as he was about to wake her up to tell her to get changed, she suddenly grabbed his hand.
