Years passed before I heard news of the Reyes family again.
The shares Callum had given me were substantial. My selling them to his biggest competitor had devastated Reyes Industries, pushing them to the brink of bankruptcy.
The Blake family offered help with conditions. Sophie’s hand in marriage would save the company.
Callum agreed.
The wedding was hastily arranged but lavish. Yet on the big day, Callum left Sophie at the altar.
That night, a heavy rain fell.
Sometimes I still heard his friend’s words echoing: “Cal, did you really miss that emergency call the night Mila was born?”
A week later, he found my new address. I moved immediately.
Money wasn’t an issue anymore – I could buy houses anywhere, enough to ensure he’d never find
me again.
The fallout was spectacular. The Blakes were furious about the abandoned wedding. Callum declared he’d never marry again.
Their bitter feud created an opening their competitors had waited for. Reyes Industries crumbled completely this time.
Callum Reyes – once the golden boy of high society – fell hard. Those he’d stepped on during his rise took their revenge with relish.
He couldn’t protect himself, let alone Mila.
