He immediately felt a spark of hope and picked it up, only for that hope to be dashed when he saw
the caller’s name.
Reluctantly, he answered the phone.
“Henry, why aren’t you home yet? I’ve been waiting for you, I’m starving. If you don’t come back soon, our son will start to rebel!”
The sweet voice that used to sound pleasant now only filled him with disgust.
“I’m not coming over today. You eat by yourself.”
Without waiting for her to respond, he hung up the phone.
Right now, all he wanted was to find Anna.
He suddenly changed his attitude, making Nancy nervous, but she didn’t dare to call him. She could only send him texts, trying to express her longing.
But no matter how much she messaged, she got no reply.
Fearing that Henry might abandon her, she desperately went to his company.
She heard that he hadn’t been to work for several days.
Not willing to give up, she came to his house.
Henry heard knocking on the door and rushed to open it, thinking it was Anna coming back.
“Anna, you’re finally back…” he called out excitedly, only to freeze when he saw the person in front of him. His smile immediately vanished, replaced by anger.
“What are you doing here? Didn’t I tell you never to come here again?”
Nancy trembled, her eyes filled with tears as she pleaded, “I couldn’t get in touch with you. I’m afraid you’ll leave me and the baby… Henry, don’t be like this, you’ll scare the baby…”

She shouldn’t have mentioned the baby. At the mention of it, Henry’s anger flared even more.
“If you were really scared, you wouldn’t have come here! Get out of here, and never step foot in this house again!”
Nancy didn’t understand why Henry was so angry until she noticed the changed living room, and then she suddenly realized.
“Henry, is Dr. Annana not at home?”
She asked carefully.
Henry was unwilling to accept the fact that Anna had left. His expression kept changing, and he said stiffly, “She went on a trip. She’ll be back in a few days.”
He then gave her a warning look. “I’ve told you, I won’t allow what happened last time to happen again. If you dare have any improper thoughts again, don’t blame me for being ruthless!”
“Henry! How can you say that? Everything I’m doing is for the baby to have a complete family!
You said I gave birth to the child and let him call Dr. Anna his godmother, but have you thought about whether Dr. Anna would treat our child like her own? She’ll probably hate him, how could she possibly be kind to our child…”
“Anyway, she can’t have children anymore. Why don’t you divorce her? When we get married, I’ll have as many children as you want.”
Nancy’s face was full of shyness, and the more she spoke, the more excited she became.
She didn’t even notice that Henry’s expression had turned dark.
Before she could hear the response she was hoping for, her neck was suddenly gripped tightly.
Henry didn’t care that she was pregnant. He forcefully squeezed her neck and said coldly, “You think you deserve to be my wife? Let me tell you, in this lifetime, no one but Anna deserves to be my wife!”
“Compared to this child, I want Anna! Do you understand?”
If only he had this awareness earlier, would he have lost Anna?
While warning her, Henry also felt the pain pierce his heart like a thousand arrows.

He couldn’t help but recall the time when Anna had lost their child while helping him secure a partnership by drinking with others.
Back then, her pain was a thousand times worse than his.
Nancy turned pale from his aggressive demeanor. The pain on her neck made it hard for her to breathe. She could only beg repeatedly, “Henry, I’m sorry, I won’t say that again…”
When Henry heard her voice, he released his grip, his body aching with sorrow. He told her, “Leave now. After you give birth to the child, I’ll give you the money you want, but don’t come to me again.”
“No… Henry, I don’t want money. I just want to give the baby a complete family,” Nancy cried, but she no longer got even a shred of pity from him. He heartlessly kicked her out.
After Nancy left, he began to slowly restore the missing items in the house, trying to piece it all back together in the image of how it once was.
He thought that once everything was back to normal, Anna would return.
He waited every day, but disappointment always followed. The cycle repeated itself endlessly.
Meanwhile, I, together with the volunteer team, arrived at a place in need of aid. Every day, I traversed the ruins, battered by artillery fire, yet I found great fulfillment.
Despite the hardships, I felt an overwhelming sense of purpose and meaning in life.
I was sorting medicines, preparing to send them to colleagues in another area when I heard the familiar, loud voice of my mentor.
I thought it was a hallucination, but when I turned around, I was immediately struck by a wave of
excitement.
“Teacher, what are you doing here?”
“I couldn’t rest easy, so I applied to join this mission. Also, my son is here now. I’ll introduce you to him. If you run into any problems while you’re here, just go find him. Don’t be shy.”
