I didn’t know when Tiffany left. I didn’t care. I
was planning our honeymoon with Sarah. One
sunny afternoon, Sarah and I went to a beach

resort. Blue skies, white sand, ocean breezes,
I felt content. Sarah and I enjoyed the
sunlight. After that, we went to our cabin. I
had always told Tiffany that I wanted to stay
in one of those cabins, but it never happened.
So when I said that to Sarah, she immediately
planned our honeymoon there.
I stood at the window of the cabin, looking at
the ocean, but then saw a familiar figure in
the cabin next door, sitting on the beach
drinking beer. She was alone, with a bunch of
empty cans next to her. I pursed my lips and
closed the curtains, but before I could, Sarah
came and held me close, and kissed me. I
caught a glimpse of Tiffany, alone on the
beach, drinking more beer. And then I went
into the bedroom with Sarah.
When I woke up the next morning I found

Tiffany still on the beach, unmoving. I was
scared, so I rushed to her, and felt her
heartbeat. I was relieved. I turned away to
leave, but Tiffany grabbed me, and opened
her eyes. She looked at me, confused, sad.
“Tao, can you hug me? Just once. Just
once.”
I shook my head, pulled my hand back and
stood up. “I am married now, Tiffany.”
Tiffany was drunk, she was crying, her voice carried by the waves, “I can’t let you go, Tao.
I didn’t know what I had. I didn’t know how to
love. Tao, honey, please give me a chance,
please! I swear, I’ll never treat you wrong!”
I stopped walking, and turned back. If I didn’t
put a stop to this, she would never give up. I
walked back to her. Tiffany looked at me
hopefully, and I pulled out my phone and
showed her a picture. It was a picture of a
positive pregnancy test. “Sarah is pregnant,
Tiffany.”
Tiffany froze. She pushed my phone away, as
if it was poison. She couldn’t even speak.
I stood up, looked down at her. I returned her
own words from the past, “We are done.” I turned away and went back into our cabin. I
left her in silence.
