a fancy restaurant like this before and surely the opportunity for her to taste expensive food like this is very rare for
her.”
“You’re too kind, Courtney,” Darryl sneered, shooting me a disdainful glance. “Fine, let’s do that.” Then, arm–in–arm, they sauntered back to their table, glancing over at me now and then, clearly trying to provoke me.
I stayed calm, but the moment their food began arriving, things took an unexpected turn. Dish after lavish dish
was delivered–not to their table, but to mine.
Darryl’s smirk faltered as the plates piled up in front of me. When the chef personally came out with another dish, Darryl couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Hey, are you the chef here?” he snapped. “There must be some mistake! All these dishes are mine! Why are you
giving them to her? She didn’t order a thing! And where’s the rest of our food?”
With both hands in waist, he continued, “Has the service in this place always been this crap? You take these dishes to our table right now–they’re ours!”
The chef, calm and collected, simply said, “I came out personally to inform you that your order has been
canceled.”
“What?!” Darryl froze, disbelief etched across his face. “Why?”
“Because I don’t serve mannerless people especially if they look down on my daughter and me.”
Darryl’s eyes widened as the truth sank in. He looked between me and the chef, a mocking grin spreading across
his face.
“Oh, so he’s your dad? Isn’t your dad a bun’s stall owner? Now he’s suddenly a chef? Wait…” His grin grew wider as his eyes squinted, “Don’t tell me that’s your sugar daddy. Wow, you’ve really set the bar low, June. Seriously? A chef’s? That’s all it takes to satisfy you?”
“And you,” he sneered at my father, “just a cook–a nobody who works in someone else’s restaurant–how dare
you claim this place as yours? Who gave you the guts to argue with paying customers? A washed–up old man with a kept woman on the side–does your wife know, or are you just some lonely loser who’s never had one?”
“Watch your mouth!” My dad’s fists clenched at his sides, trembling with suppressed rage. If this weren’t a public place, I wouldn’t have doubted for a second that he’d knock Darryl out.
“Oh, what’s this? Talking back? Don’t you know the customer is always right? Keep it up and I’ll have your boss fire you!”
At that moment, a waitress walked by and Darryl grabbed her arm. “Get your manager over here. I’m filing a complaint about this self–claiming chef.”
The poor girl looked terrified, her eyes darting between my father and Darryl, unsure what to do. My dad stepped in, gently telling her to leave and pulled out his phone to call the manager himself.
Darryl stood smugly, convinced he’d won, his expression screaming, “You’re finished.”
But when the manager arrived, he didn’t even glance at Darryl. Instead, he addressed my father with utmost respect.
“How can I help, sir?”
Darryl’s jaw dropped. “Sir?!”

Ignoring him, my father issued his instructions. “Take a good look at these two. Make sure everyone knows that they are never welcome in any of my restaurants again. We don’t serve people with no manners or respect.”
The manager nodded and turned to Darryl and Courtney with a polite but firm gesture toward the door. “Please
leave immediately
Darryl exploded, shouting that it was all a setup, demanding to see the “real” owner. Meanwhile, my dad stayed

calm, addressing the other diners with an apologetic smile.
“Good evening, everyone. I sincerely apologize for the disturbance. Allow me to introduce myself–I am the
owner of this restaurant. Apart from managing the restaurant, I also enjoy working in the kitchen as a part–time chef. One of my greatest joys is baking and I take pride in my signature dish: delicious lobster–filled buns.”
“These buns are irresistible that my daughter would take them to school for breakfast and even share them with her ex–boyfriend over there. Unfortunately, he assumed I was nothing more than a street vendor selling buns and began looking down on her because of it. Despite being in a relationship with her, he went behind her back to see another woman and eventually proposed to that woman.”
“Today, my daughter came here to enjoy a meal with her friend, but she had the misfortune of running into her ex. As her father, I could not stand by and let someone humiliate my daughter like that, so I stepped in to defend her.”
“I deeply apologize if this incident disrupted your dining experience. As a token of my regret–and to celebrate my daughter breaking free from such a person–everything you’ve ordered tonight will be on the house.”
The room erupted in applause and Darryl, speechless, was finally escorted out by the manager, Courtney trailing behind.
