Chapter 67 Time to Fulfill Your Promise
Quinn remembered Zayden’s warning and grew cautious. She politely declined.

Dean didn’t seem as shady as Zayden had said. Instead, he acted magnanimous and didn’t take offense.
What she didn’t know was that after Dean left the company, he received a mysterious phone call.
After understanding what the caller wanted, Dean’s face changed drastically.
“Why should I listen to you?”
After years of fighting his way through the business world, there was no way he’d be intimidated so easily.
But the other party offered something he couldn’t refuse.

Dean fell silent for a while. After weighing the pros and cons, he said, “What do you want me to do?”
The call ended after half an hour. Dean pulled up a photo of Quinn and studied it for a long time. Then he shook his head in confusion and muttered, “Poor girl. What a shame.”
At that moment, over twenty kilometers from the city center, a strange–looking young man stepped out of the train station. His scruffy outfit made people avoid him like the plague.
Damon wore a pair of floral shorts, his hands stuffed in his pockets, and an old, baggy tank top. His slightly long hair hung loosely over his shoulders, some strands sticking to his cheeks and forehead.
He lifted his only clean–looking face to the sky, revealing a pair of seemingly clear eyes.
He breathed in the city air greedily and stared at the sign above the station, flashing a sly, twisted smile.
“I’m back.”
Then, still in flip–flops, he got into a taxi headed for the outskirts of Eastvale.
He pulled out a few red bills and tossed them to the driver. “Keep the change. Good driving.”
The driver, who’d assumed this kid dressed like a beggar barely had a cent, broke into deep smile lines at the generous tip.
“Alright, take care now!”
Damon looked up at the empty villa in front of him.
The lock on the gate had rusted thick from years of weather. He gave it a push, but it didn’t budge.
Measuring the height of the wall beside it, he took a few steps back, and in his flip–flops, scaled the four- meter wall and landed inside.
When he came out again, he no longer looked like the sloppy Damon in the old tank top. He was dressed in designer clothes, hair freshly styled–though he still wore those same flip–flops.

Damon had clearly forgotten that he was the one who locked it himself years ago–and tossed the key away.
As he struck the lock, he muttered, “Oh Quinn, I’ll make sure to remember this one.”
At that very moment, Quinn was spinning in circles, busy with a major project. She froze when she got Damon’s message. Her phone screen displayed one line: “Quinn, it’s time to fulfill your promise.”
Quinn spent the rest–of the day in an uneasy panic, trying to guess what Damon meant by “life.”
Whose life? Is he planning to take someone’s? Can I even afford the cost?
Distracted, she went downstairs to the café for coffee. Just as she picked it up, she bumped into someone. The coffee spilled everywhere.
“I’m so sorry! Are you alright?”
In front of her stood a boy in sportswear. His youthful face instantly overlapped with the memory of a boy from her past. Her eyes widened.
“Damon! Why are you here?”
Damon saw her flustered expression and grinned, showing two small canine teeth–sweet and cruel at once.
“I came to collect your promise.”
Quinn’s throat tightened. “So soon?”
Damon stared at her playfully for a long moment before easing up. “No rush. You’ve got a year.”
Being threatened by someone younger than her, Quinn didn’t dare tell anyone. –
They found a seat by the window.
Damon looked completely harmless, sipping the coffee she’d just bought. His handsome, innocent face quickly drew attention from the office ladies nearby.
Some even came over to flirt. Damon entertained them all.
Quinn had never seen Damon outside his usual tank top and scruff. Dressed in sportswear, he looked like a popular high school heartthrob.
Suddenly, a familiar voice came from behind.
“So here you are. I was looking everywhere.”
Zayden walked up quickly and placed a hand gently on Quinn’s shoulder like claiming territory.
He’d seen Damon smiling at her earlier and rushed over right away.
From their body language and Zayden’s presence, Damon guessed who he was. A glint of coldness flashed in his eyes as he stood and extended a hand.
