Pearl wanted to meet me in person, and I agreed.
The moment she saw me, she was shocked.

A trace of resentment flashed across her eyes.

I couldn’t help but scoff, “You said you were in an accident yesterday, and now, you’re telling me your mom needs surgery?

She froze. Soon, she reacted and no longer bothered to pretend.

“If you insist on cornering me now, don’t blame me for making you pay the price then.”
I looked at her with mixed feelings; it seemed till this point, she still didn’t have a clue about the dilemma she was in.
Today was the project launch day. Without my family’s capital flow, the Kaufman Group would soon collapse.
All of a sudden, Pearl slapped her face hard.
The corner of my mouth twitched uncontrollably.
As the footsteps behind me grew closer, Pearl threw herself into Antonio’s arms.
“Mr. Kaufman, I’m so sorry. I just wanted to make things right for our baby, but she actually slapped me. I…”
Before she could finish speaking, Antonio pushed her away.
Flustered, he said to me, “Grace, please don’t get me wrong. I’ve already made things clear to her. Don’t get mad, OK?”
Pearl froze. Seeing the half–smile on my face, she bit her lip, her expression changing.
She didn’t want to give up and stepped forward to grab Antonio’s arm, only to be shoved away again.
He snapped, “What the fuck do you want? More money? Stop sabotaging my relationship with Grace, OK?”
She looked at him in disbelief, not believing what he had just said to her.

I was enjoying the farce when suddenly, a magnetic, deep voice rang out from behind me.
“Grace.”
I was stunned. Before I could say anything, Antonio beat me
to it.
He asked me, “Who is he? Grace, we’re still married. You can’t do this to me. I know I was wrong; I mean it. You’re freaking me out. Don’t be like this, OK?”
“You’re about to get a divorce soon,” Leroy said.
He was deadpan, yet his deep eyes gave him away; in fact, he wasn’t as calm as he appeared.
A bit surprised, I glanced at him.
Antonio’s eyes turned bloodshot due to Leroy’s words. He was about to punch Leroy.
I instinctively stepped in front of Leroy.
Antonio’s fist froze in mid–air. He looked at me, his face filled with disbelief.
Then he asked me, his voice hoarser than ever, “Grace, you’re protecting him?”
I was fed up with it and said irritably, “Are you done yet, Antonio? You cheated on me first. Stop pretending that you love me so much. You sicken me.
“Also, it seems you have forgotten–I taught you how to speak German.”
