At twenty, she was accepted into the best design school, but no one was happy for her. Instead, they kept pouring cold water on her, saying that this path was one she
couldn’t take.
The more they denied her, the more determined she became to prove them
wrong.
Finally, she did. She became a somewhat famous designer. But within that family, she was still an outsider with no say.
How could she forget? It wasn’t that she had forgiven them, it was that she had learned how to please herself.
Watching her mother cry and repeatedly apologize, Kate felt nothing. She had waited this apology for twenty years.

She gently placed her hand on Kate‘ s shoulder. “It’s okay, sweetheart. Everything is fine now.”
It was a string of comforting words, one after another. It was those comforting words that made Kate almost unable to
hold back her tears.
Febby gently pulled her into a hug, as if soothing her own child.
Melanie stood aside, feeling a strange ache. in her heart. She longed to hold her daughter, but had never done so before.
Once Kate had calmed down her emotions, she spoke, “Forget it. I don’t want to go back to that house. I’ve found a home for
myself.”
It was clear that Febby was the mother Kate had found for herself.
Melanie stepped forward, wanting to persuade her to stay, but Kate kept

Hearing Kate say those words, Melanie felt. a pang of sadness. “But I still love you. Not mother wants her child to suffer outside,”
Melanie tried to defend herself, but Kate couldn’t hear any of it.
Now that Leona had been driven out, perhaps she was their only remaining hope.
“I’ve said it, I won’t go back!”
As soon as those words left her mouth, Melanie collapsed, overcome with grief.
“Melanie! What’s wrong?”
It was only when Dave‘ s shouting voice rang out that Kate snapped back to reality.
She didn’t want to stay and care for her
mother. So she decided to call her father. It
was the first time Kate called her father.

“It’s me, Kate. Mom fainted, come to Polarisia.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, David. immediately canceled all meetings and activities.
He booked the fastest flight to Polarisia, fearing something might happen to Melanie.
In his heart, nothing was more important than her.
As soon as he landed, David rushed to the hospital. When he saw Kate, he paused for
a moment.
Looking at Melanie, still unconscious, David’s face was full of worry. He sat there for quite a while before finally walking out. When he saw Kate sitting in the corridor, he walked over and sat beside
her.
“This is the third time your mother has fainted. Each time, it was because she heard news about you. She’s always

carried a burden in her heart, feeling like she owes you something.”
David, a strong man, couldn’t help but choke up as he spoke. “I’m sorry too. I’ve neglected everything about you over the years, I’m sorry. I know your mother must have told you a lot, but I still want to say, if you can, please come back. We all miss you.”
The word “miss” felt so out of place, so rare. During her senior year, Kate studied art and was away for months at a time. Even though she hadn’t returned home for three. or four months, she never received a single phone call or message.
It seemed that concern was hard to
express.
