Chapter 90
Joshua was getting engaged to Zafrielle. Joshua posted something on his social media for the first time, a rare exception for his engagement.
At that moment, I finally understood what it meant to show favoritism. I sat quietly by the window while Shawn clenched his fists in anger. “I can’t believe it! That bastard is actually this shameless! I really thought too highly of him. His late wife hasn’t even been gone for long and now he’s already making such a big deal out of his engagement? Did he ever truly care about you?“}
I reached out and gently pressed Shawn’s wrist to calm him down. My voice was calm and composed as I said, “It’s alright. Anyway, Evelyn is already dead, it was only a matter of time before he got married. Go give him that notebook.”
Shawn hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Alright.”
I lifted my gaze toward the window, the corners of my lips curling into a deeper smile. I wasn’t expecting anything. I just wanted to see how Joshua would react when confronted with the hypocritical version of himself from the past.
On the day of the engagement, Shawn went to see Joshua alone. Zafrielle stood in an elegant white wedding dress, her delicate collarbones exposed, looking both sexy and refined.
When she saw Shawn, her expression changed slightly and she seemed a little out of control. “Why are you here? Who told you to come? Your sister is dead and Joshua has nothing to do with you anymore! You’re not welcome here!“}
Shawn didn’t even spare her a glance. His voice was firm. “I need to see Joshua. I have something to give him.“>
Joshua is busy. He doesn’t have time for you today.“}
Shawn barely acknowledged her. He simply turned and walked forward. Zafrielle became anxious and was about to call the security guards to stop Shawn when Joshua, hearing the commotion, came out.
“Shawn, what are you doing here?” Joshua looked at Shawn with a hint of surprise.
“I have something to say, just you and me.“}]
Joshua hesitated for a moment. After a long silence, he nodded. “Alright, come with me.”
Watching the two of them walk into the next room together, Zafrielle was so angry that she stomped her foot. “Damn it, Evelyn! Even in death, you won’t stop haunting me!“}]
“Tell me, what’s the matter.” Joshua sat lazily on the sofa, crossed his legs and looked arrogant.
Shawn placed the notebook on the table before him, his eyes filled with coldness and disdain. “This is what Evelyn gave me before she died. It’s her last memento. She told me to give it to you.“}
“Evelyn’s things?” A flicker of distance flashed across Joshua’s eyes. “I don’t want it.“}
“This was her last wish. Whether you read it or not is up to you. I’ve done my part.” After saying that, Shawn turned around and left. When he reached the door, he suddenly stopped. Shawn’s fists clenched tightly, veins popping on his forehead. His voice was slightly hoarse as he said, “Joshua, congratulations on your wedding! Remember, this isn’t my wish, it’s what Evelyn wanted before she died!” Then, he opened the door and left.
Zafrielle had been observing their movements from the side. Seeing Shawn come out, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. But after waiting a long time, Joshua remained alone in the room, not coming out. For some reason, Zafrielle’s unease grew stronger.
