Chapter 13M
Joshua blacked out and he ended up back in the hospital. As soon as Zafrielle got the news, she rushed there immediately. “Joshua, are you okay?” She stood carefully by the bedside, her voice filled with concern as she tested the waters.
Joshua didn’t even spare her a glance. “No! Get out! I don’t want to see you!”
“Joshua, please don’t be like this,” Zafrielle pleaded, a tear sliding down her cheek. She reached out to take his hand, but Joshua immediately recoiled.
“Joshua, Evelyn is gone. Death is irreversible. Please, don’t torture yourself like this. Seeing you in so much pain is killing me too. I feel like I’m dying inside.“N
“Stop playing the victim! Zafrielle, if you hadn’t taken advantage of my amnesia and fed me those fake memories, I never would have done those things!”
Zafrielle’s lips trembled, momentarily speechless. She called his name softly, her voice delicate and pleading. “Joshua, are you saying everything you felt for me before was fake? I don’t believe it!”
Joshua let out a cold laugh, his patience running thin. “That’s right! I never loved you. Everything I did, was because you tricked me.“N A sharp pain stabbed through Zafrielle’s heart, breaking it piece by piece. Her delicate features twisted in agony.
Joshua coughed lightly and continued, “Please leave! Also, I’ve figured everything out. My mother’s death… it was because of you. I handed over the security footage to the police. You’ll be hearing from them soon.”W
Zafrielle’s face turned deathly pale. She stared at Joshua, bewildered and lost. “Joshua, what are you saying? There must be some misunderstanding!”
“Misunderstanding?” Joshua sneered. “You knew she had a heart condition, yet you still went to my house and said those things to provoke her. You killed her and I doubt it’ll be long before the police come for you.”
A wave of panic washed over Zafrielle. Just as she was about to say something, her phone rang. It was the police. “Miss Solace, you are now a suspect in a case of negligent homicide. We’ll be sending officers to escort you for questioning.”
Zafrielle’s hand went limp and the phone fell to the floor. Her face was ashen. She dropped to her knees with a thud, grabbing Joshua’s arm and crying out. “Joshua, I–I didn’t mean to. Can’t you talk to the police? I truly love you. Joshua, Evelyn is gone. Let me love you from now on, okay? What do I lack that she had, Joshua!”
Zafrielle couldn’t understand why she wasn’t enough. Evelyn wasn’t anything special and she was dead now. Why couldn’t she even compare to a dead woman?}
Joshua turned his face away, ignoring her cries. He stared silently out the window. The police arrived shortly after and took Zafrielle away. Finally, everything was quiet. Joshua looked at the IV drip in his hand, an impulse rising within him.”
