“Joshua, are you still in there? It’s almost time. The ceremony is about to start.” Zafrielle pressed her ear against the door, knocking gently while trying to listen for any movement inside.
“Joshua, are you okay? Can you hear me? If you don’t say anything, I’m coming in, alright?” She waited for a few seconds, but there was no response. Not a single sound from inside.W
Hesitantly, Zafrielle reached for the doorknob. Just as she was about to turn it, the door suddenly swung open from the inside. The usually impeccably dressed Joshua now had his tie loosened and askew. His eyes were bloodshot as if he had just been crying. His neatly styled hair was a complete mess. At this moment, he looked like a completely different person from just half an hour ago.
Zafrielle’s eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at the man before her. She couldn’t help but ask cautiously, “Joshua, w–what happened? Did something go wrong?”
Her hand instinctively reached out to his cheek to see if the tear stains were real. Alas, Joshua soon forcefully pushed her hand away. “Joshua? What’s going on? Joshua?”
The man didn’t answer. It was as if he didn’t even hear Zafrielle. He simply turned around and walked out, shrugging off his suit jacket and tossing it onto the floor. Zafrielle frowned and immediately followed him. “Joshua, what’s wrong with you? Our engagement ceremony is about to start! Where are you going?“W
“Joshua!” Zafrielle tried to grab him, but Joshua pushed her away harshly. She stumbled. Her nearly four–inch tall high heels failed to keep her steady. Later, she lost her balance and fell against the rough wall. Her delicate arm scraped against the rough wall and tiny streaks of blood instantly seeped through the skin.
Zafrielle’s face contorted in pain, her eyes filled with disbelief as she looked at the man who had been so tender just thirty minutes ago. “Joshua, you… ”
The man turned back to look at her, his gaze cold and unreadable. There was something in his expression that made her heart clench with unease.”
“What’s wrong?” she asked cautiously.
“Zafrielle, look what you’ve done.“W
“What do you mean? What are you talking about? I don’t understand! What happened?” Zafrielle’s face was filled with panic and confusion. Her eyes brimmed with tears, looking utterly wronged.
“I got my memories back.” Joshua stared at her and spoke word by word. His voice wasn’t loud, but every word struck Zafrielle with chilling clarity.
