Chapter 5
surgery? What
At first, Matt did not understand what his secretary meant. He was stunned and dumbfounded. He asked, “What s nonsense are you talking about?”
The secretary was so anxious. He unfolded the agreement in his hand in a flash and pointed to the spot where Matt had signed on my behalf five years ago.
“This! Madam sent this to the office! It’s the agreement you signed in her stead for the surgery five years ago. She knows about it now!” the secretary explained. “Itned calling her as soon as I received the package, but her number was disconnected. I’m afraid something has happened to your wife!
Beside him, Taylor, who had been busy trying on dresses, had a fleeting look of satisfaction in her eyes. She quickly masked it with a light chuckle, her voice sweet as honey as she coood, “What’s wrong, Matt? is Fiona throwing another tantrum?”
“Honestly, how can she still act like a child after all these years of manage? I know her well, this is just how she is. You can’t keep spoiling her. Women need to be taught their place to behave properly
“Don’t worry. She doesn’t have anyone else besides you She’ll come back once she’s calmed down.”
She held up a dress and turned to him. “What do you think of this one? Will it go well with the necklace you gave me?”
Matt barely spared her a glance as he spoke in an absentminded manner. “It’s beautiful. Everything looks good on you
His eyes were glued to his phone as he tried to send me more messages. However, when he opened our chat, he found that I had already deleted and blocked him
A strange unease gripped his heart at that second because, in five years of our marriage, there was no doubt we had our share of disagreement. However, no matter how bad things got, we always made up before the day ended.
I understood how hard he worked and I always chose to swallow my grievances rather than burden him with them. However, today was the first time I severed all ties to him and this made Matt panicked.
He stepped outside, using work as an excuse and sent a message to Henry. His voice was filled with worry. “Check your hospital’s security footage for me. Did Fiona visit your hospital in the last two days?”
Henry was puzzled when he asked, “What’s going on? Is she sick? Why didn’t she just call me? Hospital appointments can be such hassle these days.
Matt paused for two seconds before he sighed and said, “I think she found out about the surgery from back then. She sent me a copy of the agreement. Now I can’t reach her”
“I told you before, secrets don’t stay buried forever and, in the end, the truth will come up. Especially, after the surgery, you didn’t even let her see Auntie Kinsley’s body. Of course, she was going to realize something was wrong eventually. Fine, I’ll check for you. Wait for my update.”
After hanging up, Matt stared at the unsent messages on his phone, lost in thought. He felt he had just had something important slipping away from his grasp and he could no longer grasp it again
He summoned his secretary and gave him a new order “Find out where Flona has been these past two days.”
