Chapter 8%
Right now, I just want to make up for all the regrets I left behind.}
I was peacefully studying at school, completely unaware that Caelan was desperately searching for me back in our home country, Armedon.
He even posted a missing person notice in Ekdora and roamed the streets every day with his assistant, frantically asking around with my photo in hand.§
After three days of this, even the assistant was starting to get overwhelmed.}
Just then, a homeless man outside the airport suddenly recognized me and exclaimed, “I know this pretty young lady! But she bought some stuff, stayed for a night and then left. She probably isn’t around here anymore.“}
“What? Do you know where she went?” Caelan grabbed the man who was speaking, anxiously questioning him.
However, he still didn’t get the answer he wanted. The man simply shook his head and said he didn’t know.
The hope in Caelan’s eyes instantly turned into disappointment after hearing those words.
Seeing his dejected and helpless appearance, the assistant couldn’t help but say, “Mr. Shaw, could your mom possibly know where Mrs. Shaw went? Maybe you should go back and ask her.“}
Hearing this, Caelan suddenly perked up. He thought the suggestion made sense and hurriedly bought a ticket to return to Armedon.
He had been running around for several days without a good night’s sleep. At this point, the exhaustion was written all over his face. He looked as if he’d aged ten years, a far cry from his formerly calm and elegant self.”
He had always thought that I would never leave, no matter what. That even if I couldn’t stand it anymore, I would endure for the sake of money.
Not to mention, we had a child. For the child’s sake, I wouldn’t leave so easily either.
But reality had shown him that no one stayed in the same place forever, including me.
Caelan regretted it deeply. He regretted not treating me better before, not showing me more care and concern.}
Even if I didn’t love him, he should’ve still been kinder to me.}
His eyes burned with a stinging ache and silent tears slid down from the corners of his reddened eyes.}
When he returned to the Shaw Family home, he still couldn’t pull himself together. The moment he saw Shanin, his voice was thick with emotion as he choked out, “Mom, I’m begging you, please tell me where she is.“}
These past few days, he was on the verge of breaking down.}
Seeing her son so worn out and haggard, Shanin was a little moved. She let out a deep sigh and said, “If you knew it would come to this, why did you act that way in the first place? I told you long ago that you have a wife and a child. Your heart should’ve been with them, not chasing excitement outside.”Z
“It’s not that… I wasn’t chasing thrills,” Caelan struggled to say the truth, but he forced the words out anyway. “Mom, Jane doesn’t love me.”%
Every time he paraded other women in front of me, my reaction was always calm, indifferent even.}
I would just ask, “Do you need me to clear the room for you two at the hotel?“}
He had longed to see a flicker of anger or jealousy in my eyes. But every time, he was disappointed. He thought I didn’t love him and didn’t care about him at all.2
Shanin’s expression froze slightly upon hearing this.
She remained silent for a long moment, then went upstairs and returned with a diary that I had written in during my pregnancy.
“This was something Jane left behind. Take a look for yourself,” she said softly.
Caelan took the notebook and began reading it immediately.
The diary started from the moment I found out I was pregnant.
I wrote. “I’m pregnant, but I don’t really know the father. To be exact, we’re strangers. What should I do?“!
“Today, a woman came to see me. She said she’s the child’s grandmother. She told me to marry her son and give birth to the child and in return, she’d give me 150 thousand dollars. It’s ridiculous, how could I agree to something like that?“}
“Mom needs surgery. It costs ten thousand dollars and I don’t have that kind of money. So I agreed… I just hope Mom can stay with me a little longer because of it.“%
