Chapter 10%
I pressed my lips together and walked over, trying to keep them from focusing on him any further. “What’s the matter?”
My expression was calm, my voice cool.
Hearing the unfamiliarity in my tone, Caelan felt a sharp pang in his heart. He forced a smile and awkwardly said, “Long time no see.“}] But I didn’t respond to that.
me you’re studying here. That’s good. Theo Caelan pursed his lips, cautiously watching my expression. In a soft voice, he said, “Mom told can now fluently call out ‘Mama.‘ He looks forward to seeing you every day. The two of us will be at home waiting for you.” “Caelan, we’re divorced.” My voice was soft as I reminded him, “The child is yours.“}
Those words struck a nerve again. His heart felt like it was being gripped tightly, making it hard for him to breathe. “No matter what, you’re still Theo’s mother. You have the right to see him,” he said, voice heavy with emotion.
I didn’t know what he really came here for, but I didn’t want to get tangled up with him any further.
I said, “If there’s nothing else, please don’t come looking for me again. Let’s part on good terms…“}
The word “goodbye” hadn’t even left my lips when he spoke first, “I saw the agreement my mom signed with you.” I froze, instinctively asking, “When?”
”
A trace of bitterness flickered in his eyes as he replied heavily, “The day you gave birth to Theo. When I went back to the old house to get the gift I prepared for you both, I saw the agreement in the living room. ”
“You married me for the 150 thousand dollars, didn’t you?” His voice trembled as he asked.
I looked at him, a ripple stirring in my heart. “Yes.”
Hearing my confirmation, he gave a bitter smile. “Do you know what I was thinking before I saw that agreement? I was thinking, if you truly loved me, I would try to love you too… protect you… and spend a lifetime with you, faithfully and devotedly. But in the end, I realized, it was all a lie. I thought you didn’t love me. I thought you were only with me for the money. That’s why I tried to get your attention by being with other women… hoping you’d get jealous, hoping I’d hear you say you loved me.”
Before, I had never imagined everything he said. No wonder he changed after I gave birth.
“Jane, I’ve lost. I really fell in love with you. Even when I was with someone else, all I could think about was you. I wanted your love so badly… but I didn’t know how to make you fall for me.”
His eyes shimmered with tears, filled with helplessness and despair. His voice rasped, hoarse and fragile.}
“Çaelan, I’ll never love you. Not before, not now.” I clenched my fists, staring at him and said each word clearly. “No woman would ever love a man who forced himself on her. I once tried to like you, tried to accept this humiliating yet unavoidable marriage. But everything you did kept reminding me of the pain i went through… kept reminding me why I married you in the first place.”
.He was right. If it hadn’t been for the 150 thousand dollars, I would never have married him.
I knew there was a huge gap between us. Without that accident, i would’ve never crossed paths with someone like him. He was someone born with everything and a man above the clouds.
I understood that clearly. That’s why I learned to let go, learned how to walk away without hesitation.
“Jane, I know I was wrong. Can you give me another chance? I promise I’ll treat you and the child well…”
“A marriage without trust is nothing but a pile of scattered sand,” I said as I slowly unclenched my fists. “Caelan, you’ve lost all credibility
in my eyes. How do you expect me to feel secure enough to give you another chance?”
I looked off into the distance, a sense of peace settling in. “Let’s just end it here. Let’s part ways an good terms.”
“Jane…”
“Don’t make me hate you even more.” My voice faded gently with the wind.}]
Tears slid silently down Caelan’s face as his body trembled uncontrollably.
But he knew that I meant every word. I would never look back.
The road ahead was bright yet long and everything in the past had already drifted away like smoke in the wind. (The End)
