Chapter 5
Caleb’s face was extremely gloomy. He didn’t take the pen.
Instead, he looked at me and asked, “Do you really have to be like this?
“Once I sign it, there’s no turning back between us, you know? Marriage is not a child’s play! I just spoke a bit loudly to you. Why do you wear that look on your face all the time? What’s the fuss all about this time?”
The more he spoke, the more his face darkened.
“Do you have an affair with another man behind my back? You wanna use this trick to force me to divorce you?”
The more he spoke, the firmer he became, and his voice even carried a hint of grievance.
“Have you ever thought about our son? How could you be so selfish?”
Hearing his words, I let out a cold sneer.
It was obviously his fault, but he changed the subject and attempted to shift all the blame onto me.
In the past ten years of marriage, every time I argued with him over his mistake, he would shift the blame and make it my problem.
Perhaps in the past, when he asked me to get out, he was just saying it out of his anger. Perhaps he just hoped that I could compromise first and say some sweet words to him.
But this time, I was really tired of it, and I was completely disappointed in
him.
Sample not for sale.
I didn’t fall for his trap.
Instead, I asked coldly, “Can
certificate of this house my name be added to the ownership
in the future? And can there be no restrictions on
the daily grocery money?”
As I expected, Caleb burst into anger right after he heard my words.
He shouted, “Never! Everything in this family is mine! Before we got married, you signed an agreement to prove that you’re not a gold digger!
“Now what? It’s been ten years, and you finally couldn’t fake it anymore? I knew it! Everything you did was to get my money!
“My mom was right! Fortunately, I was prepared for this!”
His words sent a chill to my heart.
Although I had anticipated this, I still felt hurt by his heartlessness.
We had been together for ten years.
But even now, he still didn’t trust me.
I thought love could overcome everything, hesitation.
SO
I married him without any
But because I was poor, he and his mom had never trusted me.
Even when his mom died of her illness, he still thought that it was because I bought bad vegetables that caused her death. He thought I did that just to inherit his family property.
During these ten years, my monthly living allowance was only 160 dollars.
It never changed.
Perhaps it was sufficient at first. But as prices rose and Albert’s living. expenses increased, that 160 dollars became increasingly insignificant.
So, I would usually stay at home to take care of Albert during the day. while doing some part–time work online. At night, I would make some time to work at a housekeeping company to earn some extra money.
Even the old sheets that I used to cover my dad’s body were picked up by me from that housekeeping company.
If the family was short of money, I wouldn’t complain about anything.
But no, Caleb had money.
He was even the richest man in New York!
However, as his wife, I had to live so sparingly.
Coming back from my thoughts, I looked up at Caleb.
And I pointed to a pile of pet supplies in the corner and told him, “This is
the reason.
“The money you gave me over the past 10 years is not even comparable to the expense of your secretary’s pet dog. Whenever I ask you for money, if we can’t reach an agreement, you will ask me to get out of your place.
“If it only happened once or twice, I wouldn’t complain about anything. I would choose to compromise for this family. But this time, I’ll respect. your choice.
I looked calm, but deep down, I was overwhelmed by my strong emotions.
After I finished my words, the room fell into a dead silence.
