Lysander furrowed her brows for a moment but decided not to dwell on it after a few seconds.
“Whether you knew or not, it doesn’t really matter now, does it? Your affection for Lysander can’t possibly be because your parents arranged your marriage when you were children, right? You never struck me as someone who would just obediently follow your family’s arrangements.”
Josiah asked, “So, what kind of person do you think I am?”
“May I ask you something first?”
“Go ahead.”
There’s hardly any resemblance between Lysander and me, from looks to personality. You’ve loved her for so many years. It doesn’t make sense for your taste to change so suddenly, does it?”
Josiah curled his lips into a faint smile. “Who knows? There’s no logic in liking someone.”

“Was it due to the unwillingness to accept, or was it because of the lost child?”

“Neither.” Josiah paused briefly before asking, “Can’t you recall anything before you went missing?”
“Occasionally, I could recall some fragments, but they were all very scattered. Over the past few years, I’ve hardly been able to remember even those fragments.
Josiah nodded slightly. “If you can’t remember, then let it be. Don’t dwell on it. Focusing on the present is what matters the most.”
“You don’t have to go out of your way to sound so gentle. I’ve said it before, my relationship with my biological mother isn’t that deep yet. I do worry about her, but it’s not to the point of despair where I need. someone to comfort me.”
Josiah gave an affirmative hum. “You must be exhausted from rushing back overnight, aren’t you? Why don’t you lie down and take a nap? If Mrs. Thorne wakes up, I’ll wake you.”
“What time is it now?”
Josiah extended his arm toward her, allowing her to check the time on his wristwatch.
“It’s already so late.”
“That’s right. Go to sleep.”
“And what about you? Are you going to stay up all night to keep an eye on her?”
“Yes.”
“Don’t do that. I don’t want to be in your debt. It’s best if you don’t stay here either. You should hurry back home.”
Right then, Lysander’s phone rang. It was Daphne calling-

Chapter 388 All That Matters
“It’s me. Lysander. What’s the time over there? I hope I’m not disturbing your work?”
o, you’re not. Go ahead and speak.”
-No.
“Okay, I just wanted to let you know that my grandma is out of danger now. I can come to Stounia to be with you.
I can head straight to the airport from the hospital and get on the next available flight—”
“That won’t be necessary. Daphne.”
“Why not? Even though that jerk Josiah isn’t around right now, I can’t just leave you there alone, can I? 1 need to be there to protect you.
“I’m back in the country, too.”
“What? When did that happen?”
I’m at-
Before Lysander could finish her sentence, her phone was snatched away. Josiah held it to his car and said, “She’s with me right now, and she’s perfectly safe. You can rest assured and take care of your grandma.”
As expected, a string of cursings came from the other end of the phone.
Josiah was quite experienced by now. After uttering those words, he immediately moved his phone away and waited for several long minutes.
“Feel better after letting it all out? If you’re done, that’s good. Lysander is really tired and needs to rest. She’ll call you tomorrow during the day. That’s it for now.”
Then, without any hesitation, Josiah pressed the end call button.
Lysander, exasperated, went to snatch her phone back. “Give it back to me!”
“I gifted you this phone.”
“Fine. I’ll transfer the money to you. Now, give it to me.”
Dodging her hand, Josiah gently coaxed, “I can give you your phone, but you have to get a good night’s sleep first.”
Lysander gave him a significant look. “Josiah.”
“Yes?”
“I feel like I really can’t understand you.”
Josiah chuckled lightly. “You’ll.
you, that’s all that matters.”
