The Boss’s Spoiled Wife
Chapter 1
They say I’m the wife of Tony “The Hammer”
Moretti, a big shot in the mob.
But he’s been parading around town with his
hotshot female lieutenant, like I don’t even
exist.
The reason? He’s afraid people will find out
I’m his real weakness.
I was so naive, I thought he loved me so much
he was willing to make his right–hand woman
my human shield.
That is until I overheard him laughing with
some rich kid from a rival family.
“That broad? A shield? Please! If I can’t
protect my own wife, how am I supposed to
run this family? She’s dumb enough to buy it,
though!” he scoffed.
That’s when I realized, my three–year

marriage has been a joke.
Fine. Let her be a real shield for once.
I dialed a number I hadn’t used in ages. “Pine
Street Warehouse. Moretti’s weakness will be
there tonight!”

“Look, Frankie, Sarah is the woman I actually
love. As for Jenny? She’s got a serious
attitude problem. If it wasn’t for her old man’s
influence, I never would have put a ring on her
finger!”
I froze, hand flying to my mouth in disbelief.
“But now that her old man’s been gone for
three years, it’s time to make Sarah my
official wife.”
I sank to the floor, my heart already aching,
now feeling like it was being stomped on.
“So, she’s been having a rough time of it?”
It was Jake.
He used to be my bodyguard for a while. But
times change. His family dragged him back
into their world, and now he’s some big shot
uptown.
I’m sure he’s got some serious resentment
over that part of his past. But I couldn’t care
less about any of that right now.
I heard Tony say, “She brought it on herself!”
“But you and I may have just worked together
this time, but we’ve always been enemies. If
you ever try to mess with Sarah, I swear I’ll
come after you.”
Hearing the vow to protect her with his life, I
gritted my teeth, fighting to keep myself from
crying.
And this is the guy I went against my dad’s
wishes to marry?
I stumbled back to my bedroom, staring at
the wedding photo that took up my entire
bedside table, and gave a bitter laugh.
Three years ago, my dad died unexpectedly.
Tony stepped up, steadied the ship, and
scared off every lowlife that wanted to take
over.
After we got married, he said, because he
had just inherited my dad’s business, there
were lots of people watching us, so I gave up
my dream of traveling the world, stopped
seeing my friends, and spent every day focusing on him.
But now he’s telling me that, from the
beginning, he’s loved someone else…
“Jenny, what’s wrong? Did someone upset
you?”
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t even
notice Tony walk in.
He gently wiped away my tears, and the
concern in his eyes looked so genuine.
I subtly avoided his hand, drying my own

tears.
“I was just thinking about how I can’t have
kids because someone slipped me
something.”
I watched him, not missing the flicker of
panic in his eyes when he heard that.
“Jenny, it’s okay. I don’t need kids. I’m happy
as long as I have you.”
Tony pulled me into a tight hug.
But all I could think about was that Sarah
showed up not long after I found out I
couldn’t have kids, and Tony had the audacity
to say it was so she could be my human
shield.
Was that really a coincidence?
I pulled myself together, told Tony not to
worry, and to go handle his business.
He kissed my forehead, then lingered on my
lips.
“Jenny, you don’t have to be so

understanding. Just be as reckless as you
used to be.”
I just shook my head, watching him walk away
with a self–deprecating smile.
I couldn’t sleep, so I noticed Tony getting out
of bed.
He carefully tucked the comforter around me,
and gently closed the door behind him.
I carefully followed him, overhearing him.
making a phone call.
“Bring me the guy who drugged Jenny, first
thing tomorrow!”

The coldness of his voice sent chills down my
spine.
I clearly heard the word “arranged.”
So, Tony, you were the one who personally
drugged me? You never wanted kids with me

at all!
I don’t know how I made it back to bed.
The next day, Tony brought a guy to me.
“Jenny, I finally found the guy who messed
you up. Today I’m going to make him pay. Is
that ok with you, baby?”
He held my hand, looking so sincere.
Looking at the trembling scapegoat kneeling
on the floor, I felt numb.
“Honey, is he really the one? Could someone
have been behind it?”
A strange look flashed across Tony’s face
before disappearing.
“Jake! He used to be your bodyguard. I guess
he’s been holding a grudge!”
“Jenny, don’t worry, I’ll get revenge! You go
back to your room, so you don’t have to see
this.”
I mechanically turned and left, listening to the
wails and cries for mercy as I went.

Back in my room, I opened up the photo
album. I used to love looking at the old
photos of me and Tony.
Tony was my dad’s godson, so we basically
grew up together.
When I was ten, I was kidnapped. Fifteen-
year–old Tony rescued me, spending six
months in the hospital to recover.
When I was eighteen, I got shot at my
birthday party. Tony took the bullet for me,
taking two shots himself.
I thought that what we had was something
that went beyond living and dying together,
and that nobody could ever come close to us.
But now I knew it was just a way for him to
earn my trust and my dad’s.
I squeezed the photo album hard, feeling like
my heart was being torn open.
“Jenny.” I felt arms wrap around me from
behind.
