Evelyn shivered, her eyes nervously trailing Lysander’s back. Her heart was a jumbled mess of uncertainty, completely in the dark about what Lysander was actually thinking.
David didn’t dare to even breathe too loudly either.
He had just returned from a trip to Afriland, and the last thing he needed was to get caught up in the storm because of whatever Evelyn had stirred up. That would be utterly unfair to
him.
Lysander had always had a mixed feeling for Thalassa. He loved her deeply, but also hated her because she was the daughter of Bruce.
But now, Evelyn dropped a bombshell – Thalassa isn’t Bruce’s daughter!
Even to an outsider like David, this revelation sent a thrill through his veins. As for Lysander, wouldn’t hearing this news send him over the edge?
But David wasn’t sure if Lysander was more excited or enraged by the news.
Thalassa had been playing a dangerous game, keeping this truth from Lysander all this
time.
After years as Lysander’s right-hand man, David knew his boss well. Lysander hated deception the most.
And the one deceiving him was Thalassa, about something so significant.
“Lysander, I told you this because I want you to know that Thalassa shouldn’t bear the brunt of your hatred for Bruce. She’s truly innocent.” Evelyn’s voice trembled, her words hanging in the air without a response from Lysander.
“Are you done?” Lysander’s voice was icy, his deep tones suddenly cutting through the
silence.
It wasn’t loud, but it was enough to freeze Evelyn in place, her heart pounding even harder. “Y-Yes…” Evelyn stammered.
If she hadn’t received that call from Bruce, she wouldn’t have known he had been arrested – thanks to Lysander.
She had rushed over to Lysander out of fear for Thalassa getting entangled in Bruce’s mess, hoping to convince Lysander not to take out his anger on Thalassa.
She had expected Lysander to react strongly to the news, but he hadn’t said a word.
What was Lysander thinking? The man was an enigma.
“Keep your eyes on the road!” Lysander’s stern command snapped the tension in the car

David jolted and quickly refocused, “Yes, of course.”
He drove with renewed concentration, and soon, they pulled up in front of the police
station.
Lysander got out, and David followed.
Seeing the police station, Evelyn’s entire body shook with fear. She had only come to tell Lysander the truth, and now he brought her here?
Was he going to throw her in jail, too?
No, she couldn’t go to jail.
Evelyn was a woman of humble beginnings. She was normally brave and fearless, but faced with a crisis, she crumbled.
The last time she came to the police station was when Lysander’s grandmother, Sybil, had passed away. Lysander’s grandfather had thought she was responsible for tripping Sybil, leading to her death, and had her hauled off as a murder suspect.
She was terrified, wailing and begging at that time.
Now, with Bruce already in custody, and Lysander taking her to the station, was she next
for the cell?
Evelyn sat in the car, unwilling to move.
Lysander had already walked towards the station.
David noticed Evelyn hadn’t gotten out. He turned back and gently urged, “Ms. Pendleton, it’s okay. You can come out now.”
Evelyn’s eyes were wide with fright, her words jumbled in her panic, “I haven’t done anything wrong. I won’t go to jail. My daughter’s at home waiting for me. I need to go back.”
She pushed the car door open and stumbled out, ready to flee.
But David reached out, steadying her by the elbow.
