Thalassa’s heart ached for Debby’s plight, torn between empathy for her suffering and an inability to forgive the madness that had almost cost Thalassa her life in a raging fire.
The searing pain of flames licking her skin, the ever-present threat of being engulfed and burned alive it was a memory that still sent shivers down her spine.
Thalassa’s delicate brows furrowed as she turned to Debby’s mother, “Honestly, I haven’t pursued it, nor did I call the cops. If you really want to beg for mercy, go to Lysander. It’s his leg that got burned in the fire, and he’s the one seeking justice.”
It was the truth; her intervention would do no good.
At the mention of Lysander’s injury, Debby’s mother’s eyes widened, her already trembling composure shattered, fear washing over her face as if she’d seen a ghost.
Her knees buckled, and she collapsed to the ground, tears streaming, “It’s all Debby’s fault; her actions hurt Lysander. I’m willing to offer my own leg to atone for his pain, just let him take his anger out on me, and let him burn off my leg.”
Caught off guard, Thalassa hurriedly opened the car door, rushing to help her up, “Please, don’t kneel, get up, you really mustn’t…”
But Debby’s mother was as immovable as if her legs were welded to the ground, sobbing and pleading for Thalassa to relent and spare her daughter.
Thalassa sighed helplessly, “Everything I told you is true. I haven’t pursued it. If you insist, go find Lysander. I have no power here.”
“Lysander cares for you, and you’re the mother of his four children. He will listen to you. Just tell him, I’m willing to have him burn off a leg if it’ll calm his wrath and go easy on Debby,” Debby’s mother begged, looking up at Thalassa through her tears.
Hearing her earnest words, Thalassa’s heart was heavy. She had warned Debby, urged her to think twice, to consider her loving parents, her siblings, and her friends who cared for
her.
But Debby was possessed, tying her up and setting the fire with a delirious determination.
And now, her mother was willing to sacrifice a limb for a lighter sentence.
Only a mother’s love could drive such a profound sacrifice.
Thalassa stood rooted, unable to lift her, nor could she agree to such a request. Few could sway Lysander once his mind was set. To plead for Debby’s clemency would be a death wish.
Besides, if Debby deservedly faced 20 years, that was the consequence of her actions,

Hertha’s words lashed out like flames, scorching as she rebuked Debby’s mother.
