“I told her there was nothing between me and Georgia, not even hand-holding. Plus, every time I see Georgia, I feel nothing but aversion. It’s impossible for us to be together. That so-called fiancée is nothing but an arrangement between you and the Reed family. I never acknowledged her as my fiancée, nor did I ever agree to the engagement.”
As Alaric spoke, he took Hertha’s hand in his, gripping it firmly in front of Remington, Beatrice, and Angelina, his face a canvas of devoted affection.
“I only love her. She’s the only one I’ll marry in a lifetime!” he declared with unwavering
conviction.
Hertha felt the warmth of his palm against hers. The heat of his palm caused her heart to race uncontrollably like a drum.
