“If it weren’t for you, he’d still be alive!” Debby exclaimed; her hatred was so strong that she had to clench her teeth and tense her body to refrain her urge to lash out at Thalassa,
Thalassa was enveloped in sorrow, her voice trembling with the weight of her words, “Wasn’t he with you before? Why did it all just.. end?”
She had told Leopold over and over again to move on, to fall for someone else, to marry and have a family.
To stop holding onto the fantasy that he’d be with Thalassa.
When she had seen him dining with Debby, Thalassa had felt genuine happiness for him from the depths of her heart.
“Can’t you see? He was just using me to get a reaction out of you!” Debby’s hands, resting on the chair, curled into fists that shook with a mix of heartache and fury.
Every thought of Leopold left her heart riddled with pain.
He had indeed shared meals with her, and even tended to her with a gentle warmth. But that was only because Thalassa had been in the same restaurant. He had used Debby and their intimacy as a pawn to try to get her jealous
After walking her home that day, he had made it clear to Debby that there was no future for them and that she should set her sights on someone new.
Debby was extremely painful.
She had fallen for Leopold during college, a seven-year unrequited love that she pursued each step with a masochistic zeal.
Even being used by him was a delight, as long as it brought her closer to the man she adored.
But now, Leopold had chosen death over a life without his love.
He preferred death to being with her!
Debby was consumed by pain, anger, grief, and hatred.
It was all Thalassa’s fault.
Knowing Thalassa lived in Royal Estates, so she would catch the bus to the Crawley Group every morning just in hopes of confronting Thalassa.
“You already have Lysander and four children with him. Why couldn’t you let Leopold go? Your indecision led him down a path of no return!” Debby spat the words out; her voice was heavy with loathing.

Debby’s words hit Thalassa like a tidal wave. Her pain made her so hard to catch her breath.
She had always blamed Lysander for Leopold’s demise. But she was also to blame.
It was her presence that pitted Leopold against Lysander and led to their bitter fallout.
Thalassa was drowning in self-blame and guilt.
But what could she do?
Killing herself to atone for her part in Leopold’s fate?
Death wasn’t the fear; it was leaving her four children motherless, and her own mother unprotected.
Her responsibilities forbade any foolish actions.
Thalassa, struggling for breath, tried to offer Debby solace, “Let go. There are still many who need your love.”
She had witnessed Debby’s relentless devotion to Leopold, a love that never wavered.
In the end, she too was pitiful for she longed for someone who never held her in his heart. Only by letting go could she find redemption.
“You’re heartless. I feel so sorry for Leopold! You can just let go and move on, but I can’t! Thalassa, you’ll get what’s coming to you!” Debby rejected Thalassa’s goodwill, the brim of her hat casting a dark shadow over her eyes, doing little to conceal the deep, bitter resentment burning within.
Thalassa’s heart constricted, her breathing labored.
Leopold’s death had shattered her, and after a month, the pain had just begun to ebb. Now Debby’s words resurrected that agony, fresh and raw.
