Tears streamed down Lucy’s face as she slapped her thighs in a fit of despair, cursing her luck and everyone else’s.
Susan wasn’t in a good place either, fuming as she watched Lucy’s tantrum. Once upon a time, she would have wrapped her in a comforting hug, but now, with her own nerves frayed to their ends, she couldn’t muster the patience. After all, she’d just lost her virginity to a man old enough to be her father!
After being unceremoniously booted out from Lysander’s room, an unbearable heat and restlessness consumed her body – an desperate craving for a man’s touch, fueled by the spiked drink. It all stemmed from her unwavering confidence and conviction that Lysander would succumb to the drug’s effects and her charm, leading her to drink without a second thought.
But she had overestimated her allure.
Lysander chose to endure the fiery torture coursing through his veins rather than bear her presence, kicking her out with disgust.
The spot where his foot connected still throbbed, but the ache in her heart was far worse.
Susan watched Lucy’s outburst with trembling rage, her eyes brimming with tears that threatened to spill over.
Lucy was having her own meltdown. The day’s events had overwhelmed her, and she feared their family was on the brink of collapse. Her voice cracked as she cried out her frustrations and pain.
“What in the world is going on here?” Bruce emerged from his study, where he had been stewing in silence, only to find Susan and Lucy at each other’s throats.
He hurried over to Susan and spoke with fatherly concern, “Susan, have you been drinking? Go wash up and get some rest.”
“I can’t sleep!” Susan snapped back, clearly out of sorts.
“What’s got into you? Your father and I have given you everything – the best food, clothes, and education. We raised you with loving care, sent you to learn piano and ballet. Did we do all of that for you to defy us?” Lucy retorted through her tears.
Susan exploded, “So what if I defy you? I don’t need you to control me anymore! I’ll make my own choices and deal with my own consequences!”
With that, she stormed off to her room.
“Susan!” Bruce called after her, then turned to Lucy with a fierce glare, “If you can’t stand this family, then get out!”

He shot Lucy a venomous look before following Susan,
Lucy sat on the floor in shock, her tears suspended on her eyelashes, before collapsing into sobs. “All my hard work for this family… it’s all for nothing…”
Bruce caught up with Susan just as she was closing her bedroom door, holding it open with his hand. He gave her a placating smile, “Susan, don’t be mad. Your mother is just… difficult.”
Susan rolled her eyes and sat on the bed, still breathing heavily.
Bruce sat down beside her, his smile strained as he tried to comfort her, “Susan, you’ve been gone all night. Did you make any progress with Lysander?”
Susan turned to him in shock, “Who told you that?”
