Chapter 9 Keep Me As A Pet
Eunice hadn’t anticipated him turning his anger toward her, leaving her momentarily stunned. However, being far more experienced than Winry, she said aggrievedly, “Caiden, I’m just looking out for you. Michael hasn’t realized Josephine is a fool. That’s why he wants to marry her. Otherwise, when he discovers he’s married a dimwit, he’ll feel deceived by the Sommer family and will be absolutely livid.”
Eunice understood Caiden’s temperament well. He only cared about benefits. Hence, with just a few words, she shifted the focus of their disagreement onto Josephine’s foolishness.
Upon hearing Eunice’s words, Caiden also considered the issue and retorted irritably, “So, what’s your plan? Michael is no saint, and his business tactics are notoriously ruthless. Josephine is nowhere to be found. If we can’t find her, what am I going to say to Michael?”
After some thought, Eunice asked, “How much longer until Yves returns home?”
A jolt of realization hit Winry as she discerned Eunice’s intentions of pairing Yves with Michael.
She was certainly not happy about that.
She disregarded her pain and picked herself up from the ground. “Mom, Yves signed with a foreign company. It’s not that easy for her to just come back.”
Eunice shot her a glance, perfectly aware of the little schemes she was concocting in her mind.
But at this point, she had no other options. Rather than allowing Josephine to marry into the Jaywalker family, it was better to let Winry take a chance.
She gave Winry a subtle glance, then lifted her chin toward Caiden.
Winry caught her hint and immediately turned to Caiden. “Dad, give me another chance. I promise to retrieve the contract. Mr. Jaywalker misunderstood me earlier, but I will find a way to get closer to him in the next three days and let him understand me better.”
Eunice chimed in, “Let’s just give it a try. I’ll also send someone to look for Josephine on my end. We’ll do our best.”
“All right, but if things go wrong again, you’ll be punished,” Caiden said.
“Don’t worry, Dad. I’m going to find Mr. Jaywalker now, and I’m sure I can win him over,” Winry said, her tears giving way to a smile as she clenched her fist with determination.
Although she wasn’t as attractive as Josephine, she was acutely aware of her own strengths. Her alluring figure was more than enough to captivate any man.
If I can share a bed with Mr. Jaywalker, he will undoubtedly find me irresistible and won’t let go.
All the men I’ve been with before feel the same.
With this in mind, Winry confidently left the Sommer residence to find Michael.
The convoy made its way to the Jaywalker residence with an impressive display.
As soon as they got out of the car, Michael immediately swept Josephine into his arms. With long strides, he made his way to the second-floor bedroom. Kicking open the door, he tossed her onto the bed.
Josephine fell onto the mattress, finally catching her breath. Her face had turned beet red.
From a vantage point, Michael looked over her, his gaze sweeping her entire form.
As long as it helped him conceal his identity, he didn’t care whom he married. However, when he looked at Josephine, he was subtly taken aback by her beauty.
She had a petite face with a creamy complexion that seemed almost translucent under the light. Her long, dark eyelashes framed her almond-shaped eyes that glistened with innocence. At that moment, she was pouting, glaring at him with clear annoyance.
She’s stunningly beautiful, though it’s unfortunate she isn’t very bright. Nevertheless, she serves well as a tool to meet my family’s expectations.
“Could you be more gentle? I was practically suffocating!” Josephine complained.
She had nearly suffocated in his embrace. His grip was too strong, lacking any gentleness when he held her.
Michael raised an eyebrow at her. This little fool sure has a temper.
Josephine looked at him. His face was cold and his eyes held a hint of mockery. Without a second thought, she kicked him in the knee.
Does he believe he can be rough with me just because he thinks I’m foolish?
Michael glanced at her, not bothering to dodge. Her feet were bare, having lost her shoes when he carried her. They were petite and delicate, small enough to fit in one hand. Even if she kicked him, it wouldn’t hurt.
He said indifferently, “I’m stepping out for a bit. Stay in the room and don’t go anywhere. If anything comes up, wait for my return. If you’re hungry, call for the bodyguard outside the door.”
Josephine gnawed on her lollipop, gritting her teeth in frustration.
He must have brought me home to keep me as a pet, huh?
After giving his instructions, Michael turned and left the room.
All Josephine needed to do was follow his words. Nothing else mattered.
As soon as Michael left, Josephine narrowed her eyes and fell into deep thought.
During the car ride, she had already realized that Michael intended for her to be his bride.
I can’t believe this.
Considering Michael’s status, he could have any woman he desired. Yet, he chose to marry a foolish bride. Isn’t he concerned about becoming the laughingstock of Junbert?
But the Jaywalker family holds the highest authority in Junbert. Even if he were to marry a fool, no one would dare to publicly mock him.
Josephine lifted her gaze, noticing a bodyguard outside the door.
It seems I can’t leave the Jaywalker residence anytime soon. My only option is to play the fool and stay with them temporarily while I figure out a plan.
As long as I keep playing the fool, he will certainly call off the marriage once he’s utterly fed up.
After making up her mind, Josephine remained calm and waited for him to return.
Josephine waited up until the late hours of the night.
Outside the room, eight new bodyguards had taken their posts. Michael watched her very closely, afraid that she would run away.
Josephine hadn’t slept well the previous night. As she sprawled out on the couch, her body relaxed involuntarily, and her eyes slowly closed.
Suddenly, a muffled thud echoed in her ears.
She abruptly opened her eyes and sat up, a strong whiff of alcohol hitting her in the face.
She looked up and saw Michael swaying as he kicked open the door and staggered in, reeking of alcohol.
His face was flushed red, and at some point, he had changed into a crisp white shirt. One hand was casually tucked into the pocket of his suit pants, while the other was propped against the wall.
Michael stared intensely at her, his eyes bloodshot.
“Who… let you in… Get out…”
Josephine furrowed her brows. He was so drunk that he had even forgotten who she was.
After yelling, Michael seemed to have remembered who she was again.
He stumbled toward her, reaching out to touch her face.
“You’re my wife…”
His voice was deep and raspy, laced with a clear hint of intoxication.
His slender, work-calloused fingers suddenly brushed against Josephine’s soft cheek, giving it a gentle pinch.
A pang of pain washed over Josephine’s face, and she swiftly turned her head to dodge.
Michael tightened his grip, holding her chin. Bending over, he quickly planted a kiss on her face.
His lips, cool and laced with the scent of alcohol, caught Josephine completely off-guard with a sudden kiss. She froze on the spot, her face flushing a deep shade of red.
He’s not going to take advantage of being drunk to make inappropriate moves on me, is he?
