Winry said in a sweet voice. “May I speak to Mr. Jaywaller? He asked me to come and buy clothes, but the manager clainis to know nothing about this.”
“Ms. Sommer, there seems to be a misunderstanding. Mr. Jaywalker only requested you help him choose some clothes as gifts for others, not for your own purchases. Is there anything else you need?”
The receptionist’s aloof voice clearly echoed into everyone’s cars.
Winry stood frozen on the spot.
What does that mean?
He’s not buying for mel
The socialites were taken aback as well, but they quickly regained their composure.
“Winry, so Mr. Jaywalker isn’t buying clothes for you? He’s just asking you to pick out clothes for him to give to other women?”
“I can’t believe I gave up the chance for afternoon tea just to make this pointless trip!”
“Winry, it looks like Mr. Jaywalker isn’t taking you seriously at all. You called us here without getting a clear understanding, and now you’ve wasted our time.”
The earlier joy vanished abruptly. The socialites, who had just been flattering Winry, suddenly changed their demeanor, their words taking on an eerie, mocking tone.
Winry had summoned them all through a phone call, claiming she was gifting them clothes.
They had spent the entire afternoon flattering her and accompanying her as she made her selections. However, in the end, all their efforts were in vain.
“Winry, did you hear that?” Josephine asked, her voice laced with amusement.
She had waited patiently for Winry to finish her show–off before stepping forward to expose her.
Winry no longer cared about finding fault with Josephine. She hurriedly pleaded with the receptionist, “Give me Mr. Jaywalker’s phone number. I’ll call him myself.”
“We can’t just give our Mr. Jaywalker’s private number to outsiders.”
After finishing what she had to say, the receptionist promptly hung up.
Winry froze.
Her meticulously made–up face was eerily pale, and her hand holding her phone wouldn’t stop trembling.
Only then did she remember the exact words Michael Had said to her that morning were “pick out a few pieces for me.” She realized she had misunderstood.
However, she had already made grand statements and invited all her best friends, buying a mountain of clothes. If no one was going to foot the bill, she couldn’t possibly show her face in the socialite circle again.

Josephine stepped forward, waving her phone at Winry with a playful grin. “You want to call Mr. Jaywalker? Let me help you!”
After she finished speaking, she dialed Michael’s number.

Quianna, distressed, immediately vented her frustration at Josephine. “You fool, how could you possibly have Mr. Jaywalker’s-
Before she could finish her sentence, a deep male voice emanated from Josephine’s phone.
“What’s the matter?“.
The voice was deep and magnetic, tinged with a hint of impatience.
In an instant, the surrounding crowd fell silent. Astonished gazes were all fixed intently on Josephine.
Quianna’s mouth fell open, her face full of astonishment.
That’s actually Michael’s voice!
It was her first time hearing Michael’s voice this close, apart from on television. She hadn’t expected it to be so pleasing to the ear.
The salespeople were also incredibly tense.
They had made a blunder just a moment ago, mistakenly assuming that Winry was Ms. Sommer. Little did they know it was actually Josephine.
Josephine said nonchalantly, “Nothing much, Winry bought quite a lot of clothes. She asked me to call you over to pay the bill!”
Snapping back to reality, Winry rushed over, her eyes welled up with tears. “Mr. Jaywalker, I—”
Michael promptly hung up.
The man sure has a temper Josephine rolled her eyes inwardly and put away her phone.
At this point, Winry couldn’t stir up any more trouble. She wished the ground could swallow her whole.
After such a massive misunderstanding, she was utterly embarrassed.
The judgmental glances from her best friends nearby only intensified her embarrassment.
Suppressing her laughter, Josephine feigned ignorance and asked, “Should I still call Mr. Jaywalker?”
Winry gritted her teeth, her gaze fiercely fixed on Josephine. “Tell me, how did you get Michael’s private number?”
I couldn’t get it, yet she could!
“Is it so difficult to get Mr. Jaywalker’s phone number? I found it quite easy!” Josephine blinked, feigning
lusion. “He called me himself. That’s how I got his number.”
Quianna’s eyes widened. “What? Mr. Jaywalker called you himself?”

Winry was filled with both resentment and jealousy, “I called you? How did he get your number? What exactly did he say to you?”
After some contemplation, Josephine decided she couldn’t let Winry know she was at the Jaywalker residence yet, as it would make leaving even more difficult. So, she made up an excuse on the spot.
“He couldn’t remember Dad’s phone number, so he called to ask me. Isn’t Dad discussing a project with Jaywalker Group?”
This explanation, however, did not put Winry at ease at all. Instead, it stirred up a wave of panic within
her.
“Have you met Mr. Jaywalker?”
Josephine paused, then shook her head innocently.
She had no intention of letting Winry know.
Winry clenched her fists. Michael has already called Josephine. If the two of them meet, won’t my chances be even slimmer?
No, have to act quickly. If Michael brings Josephine back to the Jaywalker residence, my chances of becoming Mrs. JJaywalker will vanish.
Just then, the manager walked over. “Are we done here? If so, you may leave now,”
Winry reluctantly turned to look at the clothes she had chosen. These exquisite outfits were the result of her labor after a grueling afternoon of selection. Yet, they were all destined for someone else, leaving her frustrated, annoyed, and even more reluctant to part with them.
She gritted her teeth and asked the manager, “How much do they cost?”
“After a rough estimate, it’s about eight figures. Would you like to pay by card or cash. Ms. Sommer?”
Suddenly, Winry felt deflated like a punctured ball.
She didn’t have that much money at all. She couldn’t even afford to give a tenth of it.
