Chapter 11 She Would Never Marry
Josephine was kissed so intensely that she couldn’t breathe. When she came to her senses, she immediately struggled with all her might.
She couldn’t allow him to touch her, nor did she want to become Michael’s woman. If she did, it would be incredibly difficult to leave the Jaywalker residence.
The person in the photo on the pendant was the only family she had in the world.
She owed that man a great deal. Now that he was sick, she needed to find him and bring him back to the countryside for treatment.
Josephine had made a solemn vow in her heart. If she couldn’t cure him, she would never marry. She would spend her entire life in the countryside by his side.
Her struggle was so intense that Michael had no choice but to release his grip. A shadow crossed his eyes.
No woman had ever defied him like this before.
He could tell she was reluctant.
Michael felt a blow to his pride.
I can’t believe even a fool doesn’t want to be with me!
His face bore a cold, dark expression as he stared at Josephine. Suddenly losing interest, he roughly pushed her aside.
Michael abruptly stood up, stepping out of the bathtub. He didn’t even spare a glance at Josephine as he walked straight out of the room.
The sound of the bedroom door slamming shut echoed
Josephine sat still in the bathtub, her eyelashes lowered and her head bowed down.
Suddenly, her lips curled into a smirk.
He has a fierce temper, and it appears he prefers compliant women. My recent defiance seems to have angered him.
That’s good then! I can’t wait for the Jaywalker family to call off the marriage tomorrow. It will save me a lot of
trouble.
Michael didn’t return home all night.
However, Josephine didn’t care. After taking a bath, she curled up on the couch and slept soundly until dawn.
The bed was imbued with his scent, and she didn’t want to be tainted by it in the slightest.
Myla once told her, “When a woman falls in love with aman, she also falls for his scent. Once she becomes accustomed to his unique fragrance, it’s something she never forget for the rest of her life.”
To her, Michael was a stranger she had only met once.

She didn’t want to be overly involved with him and desired to finalize their divorce as soon as possible.
The next morning. Josephine was awakened by the butler knocking on her door and telling her to go downstairs for breakfast.
She sat up, massaging her shoulders. After spending the night on the couch, she could feel a faint ache in her back and waist.
The wardrobe was filled with a number of brand–new women’s clothes. These were all betrothal gifts that Michael had delivered to the Sommer residence yesterday. Each piece was from a high–end brand, with all prices exceeding six figures. It was no wonder Winry was so cager to snatch them up.
After a mere glance, Josephine closed the wardrobe and turned to descend the stairs.
She wasn’t interested.
In the dining room, breakfast had already been laid out
Jorvan, dressed in a black tailcoat, stood to the side. Upon seeing her come down from upstairs, he respectfully greeted her, “Good day, Mrs. Jaywalker.”
Josephine glanced at him, feeling rather uneasy with the title “Mrs. Jaywalker.”
Noticing her discomfort, Jorvan quickly reassured her with a smile. “Mrs. Jaywalker, though your wedding with Mr. Jaywalker may be held a bit later, your status as Mrs. Jaywalker is secure now and in the future.”
“Oh.”
Josephine feigned a shy nod, settled down at the dining table, and let out a sigh.
The delay of the wedding provides me with an opportunity to leave.
Jorvan stood behind her, serving her, a flash of confusion briefly flickered in his eyes.
He had a feeling that Josephine wasn’t as foolish as she ppeared to be.
But to suggest that she had overpowered two bodyguards that night with her slender physique was simply implausible.
Where exactly did things go wrong?
At that very moment, a tall and striking figure walked in.
Josephine looked up and saw that Michael, who hadn’t returned home the previous night, had come back.
He was still dressed in a perfectly tailored black shirt, not a single wrinkle in sight. His grey tie was impeccably knotted, exuding an undeniable professionalism. Black suited him exceptionally well. The man radiated an air of aloof elegance that was impossible to ignore, his handsome features captivating enough to hold anyone’s gaze.
Jorvan hurriedly stepped forward with warm hospitality.
“Mr. Jaywalker, would you like to have breakfast?”
“No. I have a meeting at the office this morning. I came back to get some documents, Michael said. When

His scrutinizing gaze showed a hint of displeasure. Unsure of how she had offended him again, Josephine set down her cup and met his eyes directly.
Michael noticed that Josephine was wearing a semi–new, not at all old, dress. It was the same one she had worn from the Sommer residence yesterday.
“Why didn’t you change your clothes?”
There are so many new dresses in the wardrobe, yet she hasn’touched any of them. Does she hate being here?
Josephine hadn’t anticipated that this was what he was concerned about. Seeing his displeased expression, she got up from the dining table and said, “I’ll go and change into something else…”
Michael took long strides, positioning himself behind her.
She was truly petite, her height only reaching his chest. The early morning sunlight streamed in through the window, casting a soft golden glow on her hair. She kept her head down awkwardly, her long eyelashes fluttering. She resembled a schoolgirl who had done something wrong.
The chill in Michael’s eyes faded slightly. He reminded himself that she wasn’t the brightest and that he couldn’t demand too much from her.
His gaze traveled over the back of her neck, where the off–the–shoulder neckline revealed her delicate, fair shoulders.
Faint traces of purple–green bruises lingered on her skin, remnants of his rough treatment from the previous night
A flicker of irritation passed through Michael’s heart. The alcohol from the night before, combined with his innate desires, had caused him to momentarily lose control, leading him to be too rough with her.
He commanded, “You are not allowed to wear such revealing clothes again!”
