This was going to be one hell of a night.
Chapter 88
Adventure
Veronica’s POV
I was still asleep when I felt a forehead kiss. My eyes fluttered open and the delicious smell of pancakes immediately made my mouth water.
Orthon moved away from me to give me space to sit up.
“Good morning, sunshine. Trust you had a wonderful night,” he asked
and I nodded.
I had never slept this peacefully in such a long time. The bed was so comfy and possibly the softest thing I have ever laid on.
“Yes, I did. What about you? Last time I saw you, you were working,” I said. He watched me sleep last night because I was still paranoid and his presence did help me a lot.
“Yeah, I did an all–nighter to complete a project but you don’t have to worry about that. I’m done already. Now, if you may, I brought you breakfast in bed,” he said and I felt very lightheaded.
The happiness I felt inside couldn’t even be expressed. He made me feel so special. Very special.
He set the tray down carefully before me.
“You have pancakes, syrup and milkshake. Don’t mind the cereal, I just added it incase you didn’t have appetite for the pancakes,” he said and I gave him a look.
Was he serious right now? Why the fuck would I not have appetite for pancake? Am I sick in the head?
“Do you want to join me? Please don’t say no,” I pleaded.
“I wasn’t going to, sweetheart,” he chuckled and picked up the form. “I will feed you, okay? So open up on time.”
He patted my head like a little girl and I almost giggled. He was basically the sweetest man I have ever come across. While he had his own flaws, he was still asleep perfect as they come and I was grateful to have him in my life.
“Open up, baby.”
I parted my lips, letting him place a bite of pancake in my mouth. The fluffy texture melted on my tongue, the syrup adding just the right amount of sweetness. I hummed in satisfaction, making Orthon chuckle.
“You like it?” he asked, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
I nodded eagerly. “Did you make this?”
“Of course. Do you think I’d let anyone else cook for my girl?”
His girl.
The words sent a rush of warmth through me. He said it so casually, like it was a fact rather than a question.
I chewed slowly, letting that sink in.
“You’re spoiling me,” I teased, swallowing my bite as he held up another forkful.
“That’s the plan,” he said, smirking. “Now, eat.”

1 let him feed me another bite, and another, enjoying the way he watched me so intently. It was rare for me to feel this… cherished. Like I wasn’t just existing but being cared for in a way I hadn’t known I needed.
I grabbed his wrist gently, stopping him before he could lift the next piece. to my lips. “What about you? You need to cat too.”
“I’m fine.” he said. but I shot him a look.
“Orthon.” I warned.
His lips twitched, and he sighed dramatically. “Alright, alright.” He cut a piece for himself, eating it with a satisfied hum.
I smiled, shaking my head. “Good boy.”
His
gaze darkened slightly at that, and a slow smirk curved his lips. “Careful, sweetheart. You keep saying things like that, and I might just have to remind you who’s really in charge.”
A shiver ran down my spine, but I laughed, playfully rolling my eyes. “Uh–huh, sure. Now eat up.”
We continued like that, sharing bites, soft laughter filling the room. It was simple, but it felt special.
Like, for once, I forgot all about the reason I was here to be even begin with.
For once, I could just be… happy.
“Try the milkshake,” he picked up the cup. “I promise you this will be best you’ve ever tasted.”
“Slow down with the self praise, young man. You’ve been very cocky since we landed here,” i chuckled.
“There’s a fine line between confidence and cockiness, my love. But don’t worry, sweetheart. I’m both so you can interchange them as much as you want.” he winked.
Unbelievable! This milkshake better be as slid as he wants it to be,
I took the cup from his hands, giving him a skeptical look before taking a slow sip. The cool, creamy texture coated my tongue, a perfect balance of sweetness and richness. My eyes widened slightly. Damn.
He had every fucking right to brag as much as he wanted to.
“Okay, fine.” I admitted, licking my lips. “This is really good.”
Orthon grinned, looking far too pleased with himself. “Told you.”
I rolled my eyes playfully and took another sip. He watched me with that same intense gaze, like he was memorizing every little movement I made. It made my heart flutter in a way I wasn’t used to.
I waited for him to take his eyes off me because they made me feel shy but unfortunately, that was not going to happen.
“What’s the plan for today?” I asked, placing the cup back on the tray.
Orthon leaned back against the headboard, stretching out beside me. “That depends on you. We could stay in, cook some snacks, and watch movies. Or we could go out, explore the Island, get into some trouble.”
I arched an eyebrow. “Trouble?”
He smirked. “The fun kind.”
I hesitated. It had been so long since I’d done something for myself, something that didn’t revolve around surviving or keeping my guard up.
Thane M
“Tempting,” I admitted.

“Then let’s do it.” He nudged me playfully. “Come on, Veronica. Let’s forget about everything for just one day. No stress, no drama, just you and
me.
I bit my lip. It sounded… perfect. A much–needed escape.
“Fine,” I said, shaking my head with a small smile. “You win. Let’s go on an adventure.”
Orthon’s grin widened, and he reached over, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “That’s my girl.”
And just like that, for the first time in a long while, I allowed myself to let go. Even if just for a day.
“So what are we going first?” I asked him.
“Fruit hunting, maybe,” then his eyes brightened. “You could climb the trees even!”
“And if I fall?” I crossed my arms.
“When has it ever been a crime to fall in love?” He smirked and I found myself laughing. This man was definitely something. “You’re blushing. Does that mean…
“No, it doesn’t mean anything,” I said quickly and he clutched to his chest with a dramatic gasp.
“My poor heart. It breaks,” he walked and I laughed. I rolled my eyes and climbed out of bed to find the perfect outfit for outdoor life.
Orthon has made sure that every closet contained different kinds of

“Vee?” He called suddenly and I whipped my head around. “Why are you bleeding”
