The Billionaire Heiress Strikes Back Novel

Chapter 31
Veronica’s POV
How could I have been stupid to make such a mistake?
Talking without even looking at the caller ID?
“It is none of your business.” I said quickly and hung up again. I immediately blocked the number and decided to move on with my life when he called again. With a different number.
I wanted to pull my hair out in frustration. It was all my fault for letting him have my new number. Never again!
I ended up blocking five more numbers before I could finally dress up in jeans and a loose sweater. He didn’t exactly say where we were going so I decided to keep it casual.
I turned around, only to be startled by the figure leaning on my door.
“Betty, please! I do not have time for your troubles now!” I groaned. How long has she been standing there?

“So I was right all along, you little slut! You are actually Meshach’s mistress pretending to be his daughter.
I was flabbergasted. What was this woman talking about now?
“Excuse me?”
She stepped into the room and shut the door. “Oh you are excused, bitch! You thought I was a fool huh? You’re pregnant, aren’t you?”
“I don’t see how any of that is your business!” I hissed and she grabbed a
stool. My breath caught my throat. What the hell was she doing with a stool?
“Repeat that!” She challenged.
“You have lost your fucking mind!” I breathed and she angrily threw the stool at me. I immediately jumped out of the way and watched it hit the
wall.
“Are you crazy?!” I yelled and she grabbed my bedside lamp. It was then I knew how serious this situation was. If I didn’t explain to this psychopath, she was going to keep throwing things at me.
“Listen, Betty. Meshach is my father, and I don’t know what the fuck your interpreted that phone call as or why you feel the sudden need to attack me, but Orthon will never forgive you if you hurt me,” I warned.
She let out a laugh that made my stomach churn. Where the hell did my father meet this woman?
“You think I care what Orthon has to say? Even your so–called father, Meshach, cannot stand in the face of my wrath. “Talk less of you, brat!” She threw the bed lamp at me and I jumped away again.
“Clearly there has been some sort of misunderstanding here,” I tried to sound cordial. “I am pregnant for my husband, Carter Grayson? Does that ring a bell?”
She paused and I sighed in relief. I wasn’t supposed to overwork myself like this. She just heard pregnancy and jumped to attack me.
“Carter Grayson, one of those small billionaires,” she muttered. “Grayson… is he related to Orthon“?”
Thank God she was already reasoning like a human being.
“Yes. Orthon is his uncle,” I answered.
Chapter 31
“Why should I believe you?” She gritted.
‘Why should I care if you do?‘ the retort was just at the tip of my tongue but it was too risky to let out.
“If Carter is your husband then what the hell are you doing here? Why aren’t you staying with him?” She demanded.
Was this woman bipolar? Minutes ago, she was talking calmly, now she was almost yelling.
“Because we are getting a divorce!” I said dryly. “Can I go now? Orthon is waiting for me at the Park.”
“I don’t believe a word of what you said. In fact, I think your husband sent you away because he caught you cheating and you are here, pregnant with Meshach’s child! You are trying to take my place?” She barked and I lost

it.

“Are you retarded?” I snapped and she flinched. “Were you deaf when I said he is my father or were you blind to see the DNA reports? What is your problem? Is it my fault that you have insecurities?”
And that was when all hell broke loose. She went into full beast mood and attacked me.
Betty lunged at me with a ferocity I hadn’t expected. I barely had time to sidestep her before she grabbed a vase from the dresser and smashed it against the wall, sending shards flying in all directions.
“What the hell is wrong with you?!” I shouted, backing away toward the
door.
You think you can outsmart me?!” she screamed. “You think you can take everything from me?!”
Her face was twisted with rage, her eyes wild and unseeing. I could barely
recognize the classy woman with shopping bags I saw days ago.
“Betty, listen to me! You’re making a mistake!” I pleaded, trying to keep my voice steady. But she wasn’t listening. She grabbed another object, a heavy glass perfume bottle, and hurled it at me.
I ducked, but it grazed my shoulder, the sharp edge cutting through my sweater and into my skin. I winced as a stinging pain shot through me, but I didn’t have time to assess the damage. She was already advancing again.
I grabbed the chair by my desk and held it in front of me like a shield. “Stop this, Betty! You’re not thinking clearly!”
“You don’t get to tell me what to do!” she snarled, circling me like a predator. “You’ve ruined everything! My life, my future, my…”
I didn’t hear the rest of her rant because she lunged again, her hands outstretched, aiming for my face. The chair wasn’t enough to keep her at bay. She clawed at me, her nails raking across my cheek as I stumbled backwards.
My foot caught on the rug, and I fell hard against the edge of the bed frame. Pain exploded in my side, but I didn’t have time to register it. Betty was on me again, her fists swinging wildly.
Fuck, why was I so bad at physical fights? I was trying so hard to protect. myself as well.
I struggled to push her off, my hands shaking with a mix of fear and adrenaline. “Get off me!” I screamed, my voice cracking.
She slapped me hard across the face, and stars danced in my vision. “You don’t deserve anything!” she spat, her weight pressing down on me.
With a surge of strength, I managed to roll us over, pinning her beneath me. But before I could secure her arms, she grabbed a shard of the broken
vase from the floor and slashed it across my side.
I gasped as a hot, searing pain ripped through me. Blood gushed from the wound, staining my sweater and pooling on the floor.
Betty shoved me off her and stood, breathing heavily. Her eyes widened as she saw the blood.
“Look what you made me do!” she shrieked, but there was a flicker of fear in her voice now
I pressed my hand to the wound, my vision blurring. I needed to get out of there. I needed help.
Using the bedpost for support, I tried to stand, but my legs gave out beneath me. The room spun, and the last thing I saw was Betty backing away, her hands trembling as she stared at the blood on her hands.
Darkness closed in, and the last thought that crossed my mind was terrifying.
My baby….
