The forest surrounding the Crimson Moon Pack felt lively, something I hadn’t felt in years. Kent walked beside me, very relaxed and reassuring.
“You‘ re quiet,” he remarked, glancing at
me.
“Still getting used to the… calm.”
He smirked.
“We’re not all chaos, Kate.”
“No, you’re not. It’s nice. Different, but nice.”
The laughter of children broke the stillness. I turned to see pups chasing each other, their wolves tumbling through the grass. A pang hit me, but I pushed it away. Kent caught my expression and slowed.

“I’m fine.”
His eyes lingered for a moment before he nodded.
“Come on. There’s something I want you to see.‘
We walked deeper into the woods until the trees opened to a lake. The sunlight danced across the water, and the soft breeze carried the scent of pine.
“Not bad.”
“Not bad? This is the heart of Crimson Moon‘ s territory. The pack comes here to unwind, celebrate, and think. You could say it’s sacred.”
“Sacred, huh? Do you bring all your guests to your sacred spots?”
He chuckled.
“Only the ones I want to keep around.”

confidence was maddening, but it eased the tension I didn’t realize I was carrying. Suddenly, a young wolf sprinted toward us from the tree line, his face was pale.
“Alpha Kent,” he called, skidding to a halt.
Kent’s expression shifted instantly, the easy–going man gone, replaced by the commanding Alpha.
“What is it?” Kent asked.
“There’s someone at the border. He’s
asking for Luna Kate.”
Kent’s eyes immediately were on me, his jaw tightening.
“Do you want to deal with this?”
I hesitated. Part of me wanted to tell the wolf to send him away, but running wasn’t an option.
“Let’s go.”

Tyson’s eyes softened; his hands clenched
at his sides.
“I came to apologize. For everything,” Tyson said.
I laughed.
“Apologize? You think that fixes anything?”
“No. But I have to try. Kate, I was wrong. About you, about Stella, about everything. I didn’t see it until it was too late.”
I folded my arms, keeping my expression neutral.
“And now you see it? Now that the mate bond is gone and I’m not yours anymore? How convenient.”
He flinched, but I didn’t care.
“Kate, please. You were never the problem. I knew that. I always knew.”

My stomach churned, but I refused to let him see it.
“So why? Why let me believe it was me? Why turned me into the villain?”
Tyson opened his mouth, but no words
came out.
“You don’t even know, do you? You let your pride destroy everything, and now you want what? Forgiveness? A second chance?”
“Yes. I’ll do whatever it takes, Kate. Just give me another chance.”
Kent growled low in his throat, his wolf wanting to come out.
“She doesn’t owe you anything,” Kent barked.
“Stay out of this!” Tyson snapped, his wolf flashing in his eyes.
“You came here, Alpha. Don’t forget where you are.”

Tyson’s fists clenched, but he stepped back, his chest heaving with restrained fury.
“This isn’t over. I won’t give up on us,
Kate.”

“There is no us. Not anymore,” I said cooly.
He looked deeply pained but didn’t respond. He just turned and walked away.
“You, okay?” Kent asked.
I nodded, though the tremor in my hands said otherwise.
“I will be.”
But even as I said those words, the unease in my chest grew because I knew Tyson wouldn’t give up.
