Only when Lydia’s interests aren’t compromised does Jasper stand by me.
Declan sneered from the side.
“Brother, how can you be so naive? That Doctor Sun who just left, he’s been here before
and is an old acquaintance of hers. Everything he said was made up to deceive us. And you
believed it?”
Declan was right that I knew Doctor Sun, but only because I had invited him to treat
Declan.
When Declan was three, he contracted a rare disease.
I carried the tiny him around the city, visiting every renowned doctor and hospital.
He was like a piece of my flesh. Seeing him suffer, I wished I could take all the pain for
him.
Doctor Sun was moved by my motherly heart and came from afar.
Doctor Sun stayed with The Nolan Family for more than half a year, finally pulling Declan
back from the brink of life and death.
Declan was too young to remember, but Jasper saw everything.

Jasper loudly rebuked, “What are you talking about? She’s your biological mom, the doctor who treated you!”
Declan’s eyes reddened as he stubbornly retorted, “No! My mom isn’t such a despicable
person!”
Jasper usually doted on his younger brother, but at this moment, he couldn’t bear to look
at Declan.
He reached out to me, “Mom, let’s go. With me here, you’ll be fine.”
I looked at Jasper with a cold detachment. Was he asking me to leave for my sake or for
Lydia’s?
It didn’t matter anymore. I just wanted to go home, but with the strong Jasper, I had no
chance to end my life.
I suddenly laughed.
“You’re just adopted, not my biological son. Why should I go with you? If I go, it can only
be with Declan.”
Jasper’s face turned pale, and his hands fell limply to his sides as he looked at me in
disbelief.
Since I became his mom, he was no longer a homeless child. But now, doesn’t he want
Lydia to become his mom?
Jasper left the room, devastated.
Declan stood there, his expression complex, with a hint of satisfaction.
“I thought you always favored Big Brother. If you stop targeting Sister Lydia, I’ll forgive you. I’ll take care of you like before when you get old.”
I didn’t wait for him to finish.
“Declan, accompany Mom to the rooftop for a walk.”

Declan and I walked onto the rooftop, the wind was strong, scattering his voice in
fragments.
“Mom, I haven’t completely forgiven you yet. Pretending to be sick and faking death isn’t
something a normal person would do…”
“Sister Lydia is much better than you. She’s always consistent…”
“When Dad returns, I’ll ask the company to let me work outside. You can come with me. We’ll leave home. I’ll work, and you can take care of me…”
I didn’t listen to the rest because I’d already leapt off the rooftop.
As I fell, I saw Nolan, returning from shopping with Lydia, and Jasper driving by. Their
eyes widened as they looked in my direction.
