He logged off Twitter, staring blankly at the dark wooden desk. After a while, Alfe dialed Gerry’s extension. Soon enough, Gerry knocked on the door and entered the office. “Mr. Guzman, you wanted to see me?”
“weah,” Alfie replied. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his drawer, lit one up, and took a drag, the smell of nicotine filling his nostrils. He glanced at Gerry and said, “Gerry, do you think I shouldn’t have gotten involved in Claire’s business in the first place?”
Gerry hesitated for a moment. Just as he was about to fib to appease Alfie, Allie suddenly yelled, “Tell me the truth!”

Gerry left the office, closing the door behind him.
Alfie slumped back in his chair. The cigarette between his fingers had burned down to his fingertips, but he didn’t even notice. The words Moira said last night kept echoing in his mind. “We’re done”
