Return of the Forsaken

Chapter 66
No matter the style, though, he always exuded the aura of a freshly bloomed, creamy champagne rose.
After a moment of silence. Regina gave a small nod. It’s nice.”
Her reaction pleased him immediately. Standing tall, he smirked. “I had a stylist come at four am, to cut it. He suggested a few styles, but nothing clicked. In the end, he gave up and settled on this”
Regina’s mouth twitched. “You called someone to do your hair at four in the morning and still weren’t satisfied! It’s a wonder he didn’t try to kill you.”
Stephen smirked. “Oh, he definitely wanted to. The scissors hovered around my neck dozens of times, and he made stabbing motions toward my carotid artery even more. But in the end, he calmed down and gave me a style that worked”
Regina gave him a blank stare.
Stephen casually pulled on a T–shirt and tousled his perfectly styled hair. “He left happy enough after I tipped him double
Regina, still bleary–eyed, frowned in confusion. “Why the rush to get y your hair done? Was there something urgent?”

stephen’s smile faltered, and his eyes met hers. “Because I have a very important competition.”
“Competition?
“What kind of competition?” she asked further.
Stephen didn’t answer, his gaze deep and unreadable, as though hinting at something more.
Regina glanced lazily at Stephen, ignoring his gaze, and checked the time I need to get up and wash”
She covered her wound and shuffled toward the bathroom, Traning over to wash her face
Suddenly, a hand pressed down on her shoulder. Wait Stephen sid
Confused, she looked back at him.
He glanced at her wound. “Bending like that will only make it worse. Let me help, saves you the pain and me the hassle.”
“You? Help me?” Regina asked, raising a brow,
Stephen silently pulled out a hair clip, pinned back her bangs, and handed her an electric toothbrush. “Here”
Regina hesitated but took it, unsure.

Stephen applied some toothpaste to the brush, said in a promotional tone, “Strawberry flavor, the top pick for kids. I even had someone specially get it for you. Smells good doesn’t it?”
She placed the toothbrush in her mouth, still puzzled. The sweet, fruity fragrance instantly filled her senses.
Regina paused.
For a moment, she wanted to take a bite,
I reminded her of what she had noticed yesterday at Scarlett’s house.
Normal toothpaste won’t crumble.
For the past eighteen years, she’d only used cheap toothpaste from corner stores in the slums, where crumbling was just normal
During her time with the Mitchells in her previous life, she was treated like she didn’t exist. The family barely spoke to her, and the housekeepers ignored her just the same.
Unfamiliar with her surroundings, she stuck to shopping in the slums for convenience, so she never experienced quality products in her previous life.
This was her second glimpse into the world of the wealthy.
It was different from the minty scent at Scarlett’s house.

This one was bursting with fruity sweetness.
why it happened.
When she was a child. Regina couldn’t stand the crumbly texture of toothpaste and once asked her foster mother why it
The response! Hours of scolding, with her foster mother dismissing her question as proof of rich people problems:
with her
Her foster mother was notoriously bad–tempered and could harp on about the smallest issues for hours, turning every little fault into a lecture.
As a child, every spark of curiosity and desire she had was ruthlessly crushed by her foster mother, never allowed to surface again.
She hadn’t expected to encounter such flavorful toothpaste here.
Curious, she gave it a careful sniff.
Stephen expression shifted dramatically. “Hey, you can’t eat toothpastel” he exclaimed.
Regina froze for a moment, then quickly looked away. “How could I eat it? I’m not an idiot!”
Stephen squinted at her with suspicion. “Your eyes are practically screaming how tempted you are by this strawberry–flavored toothpaste.” Regina shot him a sharp look, her gaze as cutting as a blade. “I am not. You must be blind.”
Stephen fell silent, his expression unreadable.
