As they conversed and strolled, Kate’s peripheral vision caught sight of two constables escorting a woman into the hospital.
The woman was attired in prison garb, shackled with handcuffs and ankle chains, a picture of disarray with her head bowed and hair obscuring half her face.
Kate glanced at her again, halting in her tracks.
